TAWANKA TIMES

TAWANKATIMES

A message from Mr. Palmer

With many students returning to In-Person instruction, our daily traffic is increasing at arrival and dismissal time. Please review the following reminders:

  • Arrival - Please make sure that your child is ready to exit your vehicle as soon as you enter the front lane. The front lane is not the time to get them ready. Masks should be on as they exit the vehicle, book bags can be put on once the student exits your vehicle.
  • Dismissal – Please make sure that you come to the door to get your child and that you safely walk your child through our parking lot back to your car.
  • Please make sure you comply with our traffic patterns and staff directing traffic.
  • We want to be good neighbors, please do not park in surrounding neighborhoods for pick-up. Wood Road does not have parking areas and the rear walkway should only be used by walkers who live in the Oakford neighborhood.

Mrs. Duffy Mrs. Duffy

Meet Mr. David Robertson. He joins us one day a week as our counseling intern from West Chester University. Mr. Robertson graduated from Regent University and was an Ordnance Tech for the US Navy for 8 years. Our staff and students are really enjoying seeing this new form of technology around the building. When you see him cruising around the halls, be sure to say hello!

Kindergarten Kindergarten

This week, Kindergarten celebrated their 100th day of school in style! Students and teachers donned their best pearls, wigs, and bow ties to dress the part. Classrooms took part in special learning activities based around the number 100.

"It was the best day ever! I felt old."- Brian Bobst, Kindergarten Student

2nd Grade 2nd Grade

Last week second grade focused on engineering. We discussed the differences between structural, civil, and aerospace engineers. We took on three engineering challenges:

  1. Build a tower of index cards that can stand 1 foot tall.
  2. Create a building using toothpicks and marshmallows that can withstand an earthquake.
  3. Design a paper airplane that can fly multiple feet.

The students discovered that the challenges were harder than they originally thought it would be! Check out their creations!

My name is Hope Seabra, and I am a cafeteria aid here at Tawanka. I have been with the district for over 15 years. I really love my job, the best part is getting to know all the kids!

I am married with four grown children, and five grandchildren. There is nothing better than being a grandma! When I am not working I enjoy spending time with my grandkids and taking walks.

Lost & Found Lost & Found

These are the last of the items in the Lost & Found. If not claimed, the items will be donated. If you recognize an item, please call the office at 215-809-6310.

A friendly reminder to label your child's items, especially jackets and hoodies as these are the most frequently lost items. Even if you only place initials on the label, we can usually determine it's rightful owner.

Safety of all students and staff is a top priority at Tawanka, and so we have strict safety procedures in place. A reminder of the following:

Building Entry: All visitors must scan their driver's license or state issued ID at the kiosk in the front vestibule and wait for entry. This is required at every visit, or access will be denied.

Early Dismissals: Please notify the teacher if your child will be picked up early. If being picked up by someone other than a parent/guardian, please specify who will be picking up your child. Students will only be released to individuals listed on the emergency card, but the office must be notified prior to pick-up. Students must be signed out in the main office. Again, driver's license or state issued ID is required to pick up a student. Please schedule early dismissals no later then 2:30 to avoid afternoon dismissal traffic.
