ACT Information ACT Information

Parents and Guardians of Juniors, the ACT is just around the corner! On Wednesday, March 11, 2026, all juniors will take this important college-readiness exam. Your support at home can make a big difference in your student’s confidence and performance.

Here’s how you can help ensure your junior is at their best on test day:

✅ Prioritize Rest – A full night’s sleep the night before will keep their mind sharp.
✅ Fuel Up – A protein-packed breakfast (eggs, yogurt, nuts, etc.) will provide lasting energy.
✅ Pack Smart – Send them with a healthy snack for the break to keep their focus strong.
✅ Bring the Essentials – Students must have a charged Chromebook + charger, two No. 2 pencils, and an approved calculator (check ACT’s website for acceptable models).

Your encouragement and preparation at home will help them tackle the ACT with confidence. We appreciate your partnership in their success!

ACT No Cell Phone Policy

As you all know, the FOCUS Act is in place where phones are stored away from bell to bell for the entirety of the school day. This is also an ACT and State Department of Education policy on special testing days - there are to be no personal devices to enter the testing halls or rooms. Cell phones, smart glasses, smart watches, fitness bands, and any other devices with recording, Wi-Fi, internet, or communication capabilities are prohibited. Students will be allowed to store devices in their lockers before testing begins and retrieve them at dismissal, but no lockers will be accessed between tests or during breaks.

A great plan for staying within the ALSDE/ACT guidelines for testing day for a student is:

  • Arrive at HTHS and leave personal device in vehicle if possible - if you must bring it in the building take it straight to your locker - you may not visit your locker again until dismissal

  • What to bring to the testing room: your fully charged chromebook and charger, calculator, pencils, snack/drink, and photo ID

    • Visit the school photo ID station and pick up a school ID if you did not bring a photo ID

    • Snacks/drinks can be left in the hall outside of your testing room but should be in a clear plastic bag - there are no food/drinks to be brought in the testing room unless prior authorization due to medical condition

    • No personal bags, backpacks, purses or pencil pouches, etc. will be allowed on the testing hall

    • There is a calculator feature built into the online version of the test - Each hall will have four-function calculators available to borrow but there will not be scientific calculators available for students to borrow

We are looking forward to an amazing day of testing! Let’s make it a great day with no infractions for phones or devices!

Our AP European History classes took a field trip to the Birmingham Museum of Art to explore its European collections and connect classroom themes to real works of art. Students analyzed pieces spanning from the Renaissance to the modern era, reinforcing their understanding of political, cultural, and social change in Europe. The highlight of the visit was a guided tour of the special exhibition Monet to Matisse, where we examined how artists like Claude Monet and Henri Matisse challenged traditional techniques and reflected the transformations of nineteenth- and early twentieth-century Europe.
