KMS NEWSLETTER

Dear KMS Families,
What a week it has been! Our students have been working hard, and it shows. Please take a moment to read through the updates below and note that we will be on a modified schedule this week, which is posted below.
On Monday, April 13, KMS Counselors will return to the 6th and 7th grade classrooms to collect next year's schedule requests. Please make sure the request forms are returned signed by that date. Students interested in advanced coursework in ELA, Reading, Writing, and/or Math should complete their application in Schoology if they haven't already. Questions? Reach out to your student's counselor or email KMSCounseling@kibsd.org.
Then, on Monday afternoon, we will celebrate our students at the quarterly Academic Achievement Assembly! Please park in the playground lot and enter through the gym doors, which will be propped open at sign-in time for each grade level. You are welcome to sign your student out when you sign in, if you'd like them to leave with you afterward. Students receiving a certificate should have been notified by email. Parents with multiple students, please call the office to confirm which of your students will be recognized.
AK STAR State Testing continues Wednesday, April 15, with the Math portion. You can help set your student up for success by reminding them to charge their iPad overnight, get a good night's sleep, and eat a healthy breakfast. We will start each testing morning with a 10-minute walk and a snack on our end. And speaking of success, we have to brag a little! Based on early reading scores from this past week, our students are showing incredible growth this year. We are so proud of the effort and progress we are seeing. Keep it up, KMS!
Finally, if your student earned a failing grade in a core class (ELA, Reading, Writing, Science, or Social Studies) during Quarter 3, please watch for a letter about Quarter 3 Credit Recovery enrollments. Credit Recovery is an important opportunity we want students to take seriously. As outlined in the Student Handbook, students who do not attend or pass Credit Recovery or Summer School for a failed ELA or Math course will need to retake it the following year in place of an elective, and this applies at both the middle and high school level. We want every student to have full access to their elective choices, and Credit Recovery is the path that keeps those doors open.
We are grateful for your partnership and so proud of what our students are accomplishing. Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.
