πŸ‘‹ Hello families,

We had another wonderful week in first grade! Here is a look at what we have been learning and some important reminders for the week ahead.

πŸ’™ Wear BLUE on Monday! πŸ’™

Monday, October 5th is Stomp Out Bullying Day!
Students are encouraged to wear BLUE to show their support for kindness, acceptance, and standing up against bullying.

πŸ“š What We're Learning πŸ“š What We're Learning

πŸ“š Reading

Our Unit 1 check-ins were sent home this week! We also began Unit 2, where we discovered different habits of character, including perseverance, responsibility, collaboration, and initiative. We are practicing these important habits every day, especially as we work together during group activities!

We also learned about important parts of a story, including plot (beginning, middle, and end), characters, and setting.

πŸ”’ Math

This week, students took their i-Ready Math Diagnostic on their Chromebooks. They did a wonderful job staying focused, working hard, and putting forth their best effort! I am so proud of them!

πŸ”€ Phonics

We learned all about the short i sound and practiced reading and spelling words with this sound. We also reviewed our heart words: the, see, go, she, and.

πŸ’™ SEL

We read the story What If Everybody Did That? This story helped us think about how our individual choices and actions can affect the people around us. We talked about how even small choicesβ€”such as cleaning up after ourselves, following directions, using kind words, and being respectfulβ€”can make a big difference when everyone makes responsible choices. We are continuing to practice being thoughtful, responsible, and kind members of our classroom community!
