May 17-21, 2026

Good morning, Cannon families,

What a phenomenal week we had celebrating our incredible scholars! To kick things off, we hosted our End-of-Year Student Pep Rally to honor all of our outstanding student leadership groups. It was a high-energy day filled with a little friendly competition, a lot of school spirit, and well-deserved recognition for our student leaders who have shined all year long.

We also hosted our highly anticipated Annual Career Day. Closely aligned to our 4 STEM Pillars—Curriculum, Culture, Community, and College, Career & Military Readiness—this event is always a powerful way to wrap up the school year by focusing on the endless possibilities awaiting our scholars. Our students had the opportunity to learn from an amazing, diverse group of professionals. A huge thank you to our guest presenters, which included:

  • Public Safety & Service: The local K-9 Unit, Firefighters, and a U.S. Navy Chaplain/Pastor.

  • Aviation & Science: A Cargo Pilot, and a Genetics & Immunology Scientist.

  • Tech & Innovation: A Solutions Architect and a Director of AI Engineering.

  • Business & Health: A Beverage Brand Builder and Orthodontist "Dr. J" from Stellar Smiles.

  • AND SO MUCH MORE!

Connecting our classroom learning to real-world opportunities is what STEM is all about. Thank you to our community partners, parents, staff, and students for making these events such a massive success as we head into the end of the school year! Please also help me give our Cannon Counselor, Mandy Coburn, a huge round of applause for organizing and facilitating another STEMtastic Cannon Career Day!

Our Spring STEM Book Challenge was held at school again this year and focused on STEM Careers: Tools of the Trade 👩🏻‍🔬🔦🔮! ALL of our scholars had an opportunity to participate in our campus-wide Spring STEM Book Design Challenge and Artifact Display! Another creative example of allowing our scholars to show off their talents with a TEKS-aligned DESIGN THINKING! All of our Cubs walked the halls to participate in a "Museum of Careers Walk" to see all of the talented artifacts constructed. Our scholars have some very special engineering talents and are ready to make their mark in future STEM careers!

This week, we also received two more Grapevine Colleyville Education Foundation (GCEF) grants to support our STEM teaching and learning practices! We are so fortunate to have amazing business partnerships that support and empower our Cannon STEM mission!

We are keeping the end-of-year excitement, and STEM practices, rolling with another action-packed week ahead! This Monday, we are thrilled to host our annual FIRST LEGO League Competition! Our brilliant student teams have been working hard all season, blending creativity, engineering, and teamwork. We can’t wait to see their innovative robotics designs and problem-solving skills on full display.

The excitement doesn’t stop there. Throughout the rest of the week, we will be hosting all of our End-of-Year Success Ceremonies and Class Parties. These events are a special time for us to look back on a fantastic year, honor our scholars' hard work, and let loose with some well-deserved fun.

Be sure to check your child’s specific grade-level communications for exact times and details for their ceremonies and parties. As a reminder, our last day of school with students is this Thursday, May 21st and it's an early dismissal day. We will begin dismissing our Cubs at 11:45.

It's hard to believe but this is your last principal newsletter for the 2025-2026 school year. Your next Principal Newsletter will be shared July 26! Thank you for your continued partnership as we finish this school year strong! Have a wonderful summer break - Tag you are it!

Proud to be your principal,

Dr. Tina Garrett

News From our CAN PTA! News From our CAN PTA!

A special note from our newly appointed Cannon PTA President Elect ~

Dear Teachers, Staff, and Families,

I hope this message finds you well.

As we begin looking ahead to the 2026–2027 school year, I want to extend a very special welcome to the families and staff joining us from Dove Elementary as you become part of the Cannon family. As a Dove parent myself, this transition is deeply personal to me, and it is incredibly important that every family and staff member feels supported, connected, and excited about this next chapter.

As we come together at our campus, I look forward to honoring the traditions at both Dove and Cannon and building a strong, unified community where all students, families, and staff feel valued and connected. We know that happens best when families, teachers, and staff work together.

One of the most meaningful ways to stay connected and support our students is through involvement in our Parent-Teacher Association (PTA). Whether you have a little time or a lot, your voice, ideas, and participation truly make a difference.

We invite you to complete our PTA Interest Form to let us know how you might like to be involved next year. There are a variety of opportunities, both big and small, and we are committed to helping everyone find a role that fits their interests and availability.

Your participation will help us shape a welcoming, inclusive, and impactful PTA for the coming year as we begin this exciting new chapter together.

Thank you for the many ways you support our school community each day. We are grateful for each of you and look forward to a wonderful year of collaboration, connection, and success together.

Warmly,

Renee Hart

Cannon PTA President-Elect
