Our District-Wide Social-Emotional program, Character Strong, is an evidence-based, multi-tiered solution designed to support whole child success. Integrated into morning meeting lessons, Character Strong helps build a sense of community while developing essential life skills.

The aim of education is to prepare young people for success in all areas of life, including academic growth, college and career readiness, and overall life satisfaction. To achieve these goals, Character Strong focuses on three foundational outcomes:

A Sense of Belonging: Fostering an environment where every student feels valued and connected.

Improved Well-Being: Enhancing students' emotional health and resilience.

Increased Engagement: Encouraging active participation and investment in their learning and growth. By addressing these key areas, Character Strong helps lay the groundwork for students' long-term success and fulfillment.

April Portrait of a Graduate Focus: Integrity

During the month of April, we will focus on Courage as our Character Strong character trait. This connects directly to our Portrait of a Graduate durable skill of Integrity, which is defined as doing what is right even when no one is watching. Integrity means being honest, keeping promises, and making choices that show good character.

Knoxville students demonstrate integrity when they tell the truth, take responsibility for their actions, and follow through with their commitments. These actions are not always easy and often require a great deal of courage. Throughout the month, we will be encouraging students to show courage by standing up for what is right, being honest, and making positive choices even when it is difficult.

We’re excited to celebrate March's Purposeful People Award winners for Cooperation! These outstanding students consistently demonstrate what it means to work together toward shared goals. Whether it's in the classroom, on the playground, or during group projects, they show kindness, patience, and teamwork every step of the way.

Check out the list of our March winners below – way to go!

March Madness Lunchroom Challenge

At the beginning of the March we challenged each grade level with a lunchroom behavior challenge that focused on following lunchroom expectations (using manners, level 1/2 voice level, cleaning up after themselves, and lining up quietly). When the grade level followed the expectations, they earned a basketball under their hoop for their "team". The grade level that earns the most basketballs for following expectations earned a special celebration with Mrs. McClay and Ms. King!

Congratulations to first grade for being our March Madness Winners!

A Special Shout Out for Mrs. McClay!

We’d like to give a big shoutout to our amazing principal, Mrs. McClay! She continually brings fun, energy, and excitement to Mable Woolsey for both students and staff. This week, she went above and beyond by dressing up as Little Debbie and delivering treats to staff to help everyone power through the final days before spring break. Her thoughtfulness and ability to recognize not only the needs of our students, but also the importance of supporting and uplifting staff, does not go unnoticed. Mable Woolsey is truly lucky to have such a dedicated and spirited leader!

Pie in the Face Fundraiser

The Mable Woolsey Student Council will be hosting a pie in the face fundraiser to raise funds for our Blessings in a Backpack program from April 23-April 30th. Students can bring in donations to "vote" for their favorite student council member. The members with the most money raised will receive a pie in the face in front of the whole school at our monthly assembly on May 1st!

With the help of local organizations and individuals, MWES is able to participate in the Blessings in a Backpack program. This program provides a weekend bag of food for those students in need. Did you know that 1 in 7 students in the United States start the school year and day hungry? A weekend snack bag can do more than curb hunger—it can build confidence, improve focus, and help kids show up ready to learn.

We can use your help....Help us fuel kids this school year, starting with their very first day. Every donation makes a difference! Give online at
