Mary Hogan Family Newsletter

Update from Principal Jen Kravitz
January 24, 2025
Dear Mary Hogan Families,
It was a short week of school, so the newsletter is quite short this week. Even though it was a short week, we managed to fit in A LOT of learning. I saw fifth graders reflecting on their learning from their Sharing the Planet unit of inquiry. Second graders were learning about where chocolate comes from and how M&Ms are made. Yum! Students are working on their spelling, hearing sounds in words and blending them, and writing about personal experiences. It is all pretty awesome! I am looking forward to what we will do in a full week next week!
đź’™, Jen

Dressing for the Weather
It has been cold lately and we are asking families help to ensure students are appropriately dressed each day, especially when it is very cold. Colleagues in Cornwall shared this guideline for dressing and what students need outside. Please use these are guidelines to help your child.
Elementary Progress Reporting
January progress reports will be sent home in your child’s backpack next Friday, Jan. 31. This report is a summary of your child’s learning and development to date and will focus on students’ progress toward meeting end-of-year grade level standards. In addition to academic progress, students’ progress relative to the Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills is reported.
Prior to reading the progress summary it is helpful to review the description of the assessment criteria found in the report. Teachers will be reaching out to you by phone in the next two weeks to answer any clarifying questions about your child’s progress.
Substance Prevention Lessons for 4th and 5th Grades
The United Way of Addison County has been offering lessons across ACSD 3rd grades about substance prevention, specifically about vaping. We also invited them to come speak with our 4th and 5th graders. In the next 4-6 weeks, all 4th and 5th grade classes will see folks from the United Way and learn about the negative impact of vaping and e-cigarettes. For more information see the link befow about the lessons.
