Superintendent's Community Update

Dear Newport Parents, Families, and Staff:

With just two weeks until the start of the 2022-2023 school year on Wednesday, September 7th, we’re hard at work getting classrooms ready for the return of our students and teachers. We’re excited for another great year of learning, growth, and exploration with our amazing One Newport community partners.

Below are a few helpful updates, key dates, and I hope everyone can attend my Superintendent’s Town Hall Zoom meeting, which has been rescheduled to Thursday, September 1st at 5:30 pm. I hope everyone is enjoying these last few weeks of summer!

Con solo dos semanas para el inicio del año escolar 2022-2023 el miércoles 7 de septiembre, estamos trabajando arduamente para preparar las aulas para el regreso de nuestros estudiantes y maestros. Estamos emocionados por otro gran año de aprendizaje, crecimiento y exploración con nuestros increíbles socios de la comunidad de One Newport.

The first day of school will be Wednesday, September 7th, and in case you missed it, here is the Newport Public Schools 2022-2023 calendar.

Bus schedules are still being finalized and will be shared shortly. School start times for the 2022-2023 school year will be:

• Rogers High School - 7:30 am

• Thompson Middle School - 8:00 am

• Pell Elementary School - 8:30 am

I will be hosting a virtual town hall meeting for families on Thursday, September 1st from 5:30-6:30pm to share back-to-school information and answer your questions. You can join the meeting using this link and please submit any questions ahead of time by using this form.

New NACTC students and families: we hope to see you next Wednesday, 8/31 at 5:30 to welcome you to the 2022-23 school year! Please go to the NACTC Building at 109 Old Fort Road, Newport, RI across from the Fifth Ward Fire Station, and park near the tennis courts. You will not be able to access the event through Rogers High School at 15 Wickham.

Our Health and Wellness Committee has been focusing on ways to strengthen our social emotional learning curriculum (SEL). Mental and physical health are important to everyone. It would be a great help if you could take 3-5 minutes to fill out this survey.

Universal Breakfast will be provided at Pell Elementary School only. Free/Reduced meal eligibility is based on applications that are returned. Applications will be distributed through your child’s school. We would appreciate ALL applications being returned even if your family is not eligible. The percentage of returned applications generates additional funding for the district.

El Desayuno Universal se proporcionará únicamente en la Escuela Primaria Pell. La elegibilidad para comidas gratis/reducidas se basa en las solicitudes que se devuelven.
