Meal Reminders and Information

First State Montessori Academy wants all children to be able to do their best learning. We believe that good nutrition is essential to learning and want to provide each child with what they need to do their best.

Guidelines: Meals should be nutritious and well balanced. Students may not bring candy, soda or caffeinated beverages to school. Lunches should be brought in an insulated bag/box with an ice pack as students do not have access to a refrigerator. Classrooms do allow “heat-ups” for lunch but the specific rules around this are created by the classroom teacher (please ask your child’s teacher about and procedural information if your child is bringing something that needs to be heated up at school.

FSMA is a NUT-FREE school.

Volunteers are needed to help with lunch daily... no experience necessary!

Sibling Enrollment

Just a reminder that if you have a current student's sibling who is eligible for enrollment, an application must be submitted during the school choice window. The deadline is Wednesday, January 14th. Please make sure your application is complete and reach out to our office with any questions!

Also, if you know people who are interested in FSMA for their child, please share with them the dates of our January Info Session.

Howard Student Interns

Did you know that once a week 11th grade students from Howard's Teacher Academy volunteer in the Lower School. We love this partnership and our students benefit so much from having these high school students work alongside of them.

FSMA has had this partnership for many years and it is always fun to see where our interns end up and we love having them come back and visit.

Cold Weather

FSMA has safety guidelines for taking children outside when it is cold that are based on the temperature and wind-chill factor.

GREEN = okay to play outside in appropriate cold weather clothing

YELLOW = play outside for maximum of 10-15 minutes in appropriate cold weather clothing.

RED = do not play outside. Indoor recess.

Parenting Series - FREE to FSMA Parents

Title: Elevating Discipline with the Brain in Mind

Reminder: Register now for this FREE parenting session and the link will be sent to you (even if you cannot attend that night, by registering, the recording will be sent to you)

Join Dr. Tina Payne Bryson as she shares transformative ideas that can serve as a go-to guide for parents and caregivers. With candid stories, compassion, and humor, Bryson will address the challenges we see in everyday parenting and help us approach them from a brain-based lens. She will revisit the true meaning of the word discipline—to teach so that kids learn essential skills—and show caregivers how “chasing the why” behind behaviors and combining nurture with structure can help us shift behaviors, strengthen relationships, and improve discipline. All are welcome.

FSMA Literacy Night

Join us for our first-ever FSMA Literacy Night on Thursday, January 29, from 6:00–7:30 PM! All ages are invited to enjoy a special evening celebrating reading and storytelling together. We’ll welcome two local authors from our FSMA community who will read their books aloud, along with hands-on craft activities for kids and a few fun take-home items.

Families will also learn about literacy-related events happening in our community and discover simple ways to keep the excitement about reading going at home. This is a family-friendly event, and we can’t wait to read, create, and learn together!
