Hello Eagles!
We've made it - It's the Last week of school!
*Reminder: The Last day of school is this Friday, 5/24/24 and it is a half-day for students so middle school will release at 1:05pm. Due to last day activities, if you plan to pick up your student early before 1:05pm dismissal on Friday, the last time for early pick-up will be at 12:20 so please plan accordingly. If someone other than a parent/guardian who is listed in HAC is picking up your child on the last day of school this Friday, you must email the CRMS registrar no later than 4:20pm this Wednesday (5/22/24) to add the person to the emergency contact list in HAC.
Important information about the last day of school at CRMS this Friday (5/24/24):
- Half-day early dismissal at 1:05pm for MS.
- We will NOT be taking early dismissal requests by phone or note on Friday, 5/24. A parent/guardian must come inside with a photo ID prior to 12:20. All students will be participating in fun, last-day-of-school activity rotations and will be difficult to locate in a timely manner, so please plan accordingly.
- Bus permits will NOT be provided on Friday, 5/24. Buses will only transport assigned students home.
- We encourage ALL students to bring as few items to school as possible on Friday. No laptops, school supplies, etc.
- Students should ONLY bring a small drawstring backpack or almost empty school backpack. They should ONLY bring a water bottle, snack if they want, hat/sunscreen, yearbooks & a pen. Please put your name inside your yearbook before arriving. And remember NO Sharpies are allowed at school.
- Lunch will not be served, so students may want to bring a snack. There will be a grab & go lunch available from the cafeteria for any students who want/need a lunch to take with them before leaving school for the day.
- We also encourage refillable water bottles and sunscreen/hats as some activities will be outdoors.
*Don't forget to take care of your timely and important to-do list items that must be done NOW for next year! School supply pack prices go up tomorrow. And I know these deadlines seem early but all of these tasks help us make sure we have staffing, bus routes and devices better prepared for students on the first day of school!
*All Library Books need to be turned in as soon as possible before summer.
Go Eagles!

COURSE VERIFICATION 2024/2025
Please view your child's HAC courses for accuracy. If there is a mistake or you would like to make a change, please utilize the appropriate grade level google form on our counseling website. Changes to course requests will be allowed until noon on May 24, 2024. No action needed if courses are correct. We hope you all have a great summer and look forward to our 2024/2025 school year!
How to view your course requests:
Log-in to Home Access Center → Select ‘Classes’ → Select the ‘Schedule’ tab.
Scroll down to the bottom of the page to see 2024/2025 Course Requests.
Notes:
This is not a course schedule. These are student requests and are in no particular order.
Course requests are a yearlong commitment. No changes to courses will be accepted after May 24th at noon.
Due to scheduling constraints, some specific class combinations may not always be available. Additionally, the availability of specific classes will be dependent on student interest and master schedule considerations.
Home Access viewing of course requests will be viewable through May 24th and then closed until schedules are live in August.
Foreign Language Testing - Deadline May 22nd at noon
CRMS families, if your child is proficient in a language and would like to pursue testing opportunities to earn high school credit for this language, please contact your school counselor for information on summer 2024 testing. Summer AAPPL testing will be held on May 28th at Wiley Middle School from 9am-1pm. The deadline to register for summer testing is May 22nd at noon. Testing is open to all grade levels, but recommended for current 7/8 graders.
A Message from the Nurse: Medication Pick up
Dear Parents/Guardians:
All medication and diabetic supplies that have been left in the clinic for your student, need to be picked up no later than May 24, 2024. Only students who have permission to self-carry their emergency medications, will be allowed to bring their medication home. All other students will not be able to pick up medications under any circumstances. They must be picked up by a parent or guardian. The district does not allow medication to be stored in the clinic over the summer, so all medications not picked up by 12:00 pm on May 24, 2024, will be disposed of properly.
If you need a copy of your student’s immunization record for summer camps, please email student.records@leanderisd.org.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. Have a great summer.

Next Year in the Library
Update on this year's yearbook!
Online yearbooks are sold out (deadline was 5/10/24). We anticipate that will have somewhere between 10 and 20 books available for sale. That is assuming that none of the pre-ordered books are damaged. We are still sorting through the boxes of books to check for damages. So far, only one book had damage to the cover. If books are damaged, we will have to replace them with the extra copies that Jostens sent us, thus depleting the number of books still available to sell for cash.
Update! Any remaining books will be sold on a first come first serve basis based on waitlist. Jostens has now created an online waitlist so that no one has to stand in a line outside at CRMS. Sign-up for waitlist online here.

Update from Transportation
In an effort to enhance security, safety of our students and staff and to improve the efficiency of our routes, for the 2024-25 school year, all eligible bus riders – new and returning – will be required to register for transportation if they wish to utilize transportation to and/or from school. In the past, routes for general education students were created based on eligible riders. Going forward routes will be created based on actual riders.
To guarantee transportation on the first day of the 2024–2025 school year, bus registration must be received by Friday, June 14. Registrations received after this date will be processed as soon as possible in the order in which they were received.
Improvements
- Reduce overcrowding on buses
This change will enable the Transportation department to more quickly identify when a bus is approaching its maximum seating capacity - More accurate bus stops
By switching from eligible riders to actual riders, the Transportation department can set bus stops based on a more accurate bus route roster. - Improved security
Through this registration process, bus drivers will more quickly be able to ensure only approved riders are on the bus.
Read more from Leander ISD Transportation here
Note: Routes for special education students will continue to be created for eligible actual riders. Once deemed eligible by the student’s ARD committee, parents will use the registration form to notify the Transportation department that their student intends to utilize special education transportation services.
Leaving CRMS or not attending VHS next year?
Please fill out LISD withdrawal paperwork and return to the CRMS Registrar. The registrar will assist with the transfer of records and make arrangements to collect any outstanding items that are checked out from LISD . Please contact the CRMS Registrar Office at 512-570-3515 with any questions.

State Required Immunizations for Students in 7th Grade during the 24-25 School Year
Dear Parents/Guardians,
In order to be compliant under Texas Administrative Code regarding immunizations, an updated immunization record is required for your incoming 7th grade child. The updated immunization record must include the required Tdap booster and 1 quadrivalent Meningococcal vaccine (after the age of 11). To avoid exclusion, your child’s campus nurse must receive the updated record prior to the first day of school. Please visit the Texas Department of State Health Services website to view a full list of K-12 immunization requirements.
If you are unsure whether your child has received these required immunizations, please contact your physician. You may request a copy of your child’s immunization records by emailing student.records@leanderisd.org.
We hope this early communication prevents missed instructional days in your child’s upcoming 7th grade school year. Please contact Rachael Kristoff at Canyon Ridge Middle School should you have any questions regarding state required immunizations.
Thank you,
Rachael Kristoff RN, BSN

Get to Know the Eagles
Ms. Verna, 6th Science Teacher
Ms. Roth, Theater Teacher
Señor Flax, Spanish Teacher
Señor Flax is one of our outstanding Spanish teachers here at Canyon Ridge and has been teaching for 13 years both in the US and abroad. He says his favorite thing about CRMS is how well rounded the students are. They excel in academics, athletics, fine arts, student government, robotics, and so much more. One of his favorite things he has seen from his students this year is that Students have become masters at CREATIVE communication - taking a phrase from one unit, then combining it with an expression from another unit to form unique thoughts. Original ideas are what truly yield language acquisition, and he is so proud of them! Fun fact about Señor Flax he has a fraternal twin brother - who is also a middle school Spanish Teacher!
Ms. Morris, 8th Science Teacher
This is Ms. Morris’s 5th year teaching and she is one of our amazing 8th grade science teachers as well as our NJHS adviser. She says that her favorite thing about CRMS are the people; her coworkers, the admin and the amazing students! Ms. Morris says that she is really looking forward to the 8th graders end of year projects. She says it is so fun and interesting to see how everyone can connect their own passions to science. Her advice to her students: Never underestimate the influence you can have! Each conversation, classroom, community, etc. is an opportunity for us to impact the people around us. Fun fact about Ms Morris when she’s not in the classroom she loves hiking and her goal is to visit and hike as many National Parks as she can. What a great goal!
Off Campus PE (OCPE) for 2024-25
During our course registration parent meetings and student information sessions, we shared with you that the Leander ISD Off Campus PE (OCPE) guidelines for 2024-25 were revised. At this time, those updates will be postponed and the OCPE program will continue without the removal of recommended activities. To access OCPE guidelines and application, please visit the Leander ISD OCPE website. All off-campus PE student applications for the 2024–25 school year must be submitted via OCPE Form no later than 4 p.m., Friday, May 31, 2024.
If OCPE impacts your CRMS Course requests for the upcoming school year, please apply according to the Leander ISD OCPE guidelines page linked above AND utilize the course change form located on the CRMS Counseling website. The last day for CRMS course change requests is May 24, 2024 at 12pm. Please contact your grade-level counselor if you have any questions about this process.

Attendance
Important Attendance Reminders:
- Absence notes should be emailed to crmsattendance@leanderisd.org within 48 hours of the absence.
When you email the school, please include the student's first and last name and ID #. Student nicknames can cause confusion with attendance coding.
If you will be picking up your child from school early, please call the school (512-570-3500) ahead of time to let the Receptionist know. This allows our Receptionist time to get a pass written ahead of time and helps to move the process along more quickly.
The only people who will be permitted to pick up a child will be parents/guardians and those individuals listed as an emergency contact in your Home Access Center (HAC). Due to safety reasons, we cannot allow a parent to call in and give permission for someone to pick up your child during the school day other than those listed in HAC.
We do not allow early pick up after 4:00pm.
- If you feel like there is an error for a particular class period, please email the teacher directly first. For example, if your student was tardy and the teacher accidentally already marked the student absence, email the teacher because the attendance office has to have it in writing from the teacher before attendance can update anything
- There is a turn around time in updates if a student was with the nurse, AP, counselor, etc. It is not necessary to email the attendance office. Please remember that we have almost 1100 students so it will take 1-2 business days to show the update. We appreciate your patience and understanding that our team is working tirelessly to support all of our Eagles!
Bus updates from Transportation
The Leander ISD Transportation Department uses SMART Tag – a system that provides accurate, near real-time monitoring of where and when students load onto and unload off of their school bus – to help promote student safety and security, keeping parents, school administrators and the district’s transportation department more informed.
Returning bus riders are asked to continue to use the SMART Tag card they were issued last year. If they do not have a card, the student will punch in using their lunch number (student ID) when getting on and off the bus. Bus drivers will begin to issue cards in September for new bus riders.
The online parent portal allows parents and guardians to register to receive alerts for when the bus will arrive at their child’s stop; see a live map of their child’s bus; and view a riding history for their child. Be sure to register if you have never done so.
By Wednesday, Aug. 9, Leander ISD parents can enter their home address into Infofinder to look up their child’s bus route number, pick-up/drop-off times, and bus stop locations for the 2023–24 school year. Bus routes are subject to change, so LISD parents are strongly encouraged to confirm their child’s bus information again the week prior to the start of school.
School Breakfast & Lunches
During the 2023–24 school year, Leander ISD will welcome back Southwest Foodservice Excellence (SFE) as its food-services provider. That’s right – that means Crispitos are coming back!
All students who qualify for free meals during the 2023–24 school year will receive breakfast and lunch at no cost. In 2023–24, students who qualify for reduced-price meals will receive free breakfast meals and lunch for $0.40.
For elementary students who do not qualify for F&R meals, prices will remain the same from last year. At elementary school, the cost of breakfast is $1.50 and lunch is $2.90. For secondary students, the cost of breakfast is $1.75 and lunch is $3.15.
Parents who would like to apply to find out if they are eligible for F&R meals for their children can visit our Child Nutrition Services website for more information.
