Giving Students a Voice!
Third in our Strategic Planning Series
Thank you for staying engaged with our Imagine 2030 strategic planning process. This is the third update in our series highlighting key themes from community surveys. Previously, we discussed supporting our exceptional staff. Today, we're exploring another area your feedback helped identify.
One message came through loud and clear: our students want more say in their education. They're seeking learning that connects to real life, active participation, and opportunities to develop their voices. Students have expressed that building the confidence to advocate for themselves is essential for success in school and beyond.
Here's a summary of what else we've heard from the community about empowering student voices:
Connecting classroom learning with real-world applications
Developing opportunities for structured self-advocacy skill-building
Strengthening student-teacher relationships through informal interactions
Establishing more direct communication channels for student input
Creating collaborative environments where student voice is valued
Our Superintendent’s Student Advisory Board has already started brainstorming projects for next year, including student panels at orientation, a self-advocacy helpline, and student-led video series on advocacy skills. Their work will be incorporated into our Imagine 2030 Strategic Plan.
When students develop the confidence to advocate for themselves and believe their voices matter, they perform better academically and develop crucial life skills that serve them long after graduation. As we continue our planning, empowering student voice will remain central to our conversations.
Stay tuned for our next update featuring another theme from your feedback. Thank you again for being part of this important work.

VEX Robotics
Haslett Robotics Club proudly announces 2 teams representing mid-Michigan in the VEX Robotics WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP!!
Congratulations to the Minebots and the Quackmacs who will be heading to compete in Dallas Texas, May 12th through the 14th. This is the second year in a row the Minebots qualified to compete at Worlds; this year qualifying via the Design Award. The Quackmacs are a first year team whose impressive performance at the Michigan ES VEX IQ Robotics Competition State Championship qualified them to compete at Worlds. AMAZING ACHIEVEMENTS!! These teams were 2 of 9 HRC teams (Digital Dragons, The Wizards, Seasoned Baguettes, Robotic Raccoons, The Pickles, Robo Twisters, and Gear Grinders) that qualified to compete in the Michigan ES/MS VEX IQ Robotics Competition State Championships, which occurred March 8th and 9th.
Another proud achievement earned by HRC was having 2 high school teams, Pink Rolls Royce and Overcooked Bread, qualify for and compete at the Consumers Energy and Kettering University Michigan HS State Championship. Overcooked Bread won a Semi-Finalist Award! WAY TO GO! Finally, HRC Drone team, The Toasted Baguettes, were the Teamwork Mission Champions at the Critical Ops Aerial Drone Competition and are qualified to participate in the regional championship.
All of these fantastic achievements help highlight the level of excellence reachable through participation in HRC. The programs are available beginning in 2nd grade and continue through graduation. HRC is not exclusive to Haslett Public Schools, and welcomes participation from interested students. Anyone interested in learning about HRC and VEX Robotics scan the QR code below. We are always looking for new students, coaches, and volunteers to assist in running this fantastic program.
