Principal Update 2/12/24
Good Morning Memorial Families,
We had an amazing week at Memorial last week. Our Inspired Learning Day was a tremendous success, with students participating in everything from Yoga, Escape Rooms, Music Writing, and multiple Design Challenges. We even had a group design a food drive for the Upton Food Pantry, which you can see below. The flyer was designed and written by students in the Global Citizen pathway, and we are hoping to stock the shelves at the food pantry ahead of school vacation. Read the student-created flyer below and send in your grade level's item sometime this week!
The talented Sheryl Faye visited Memorial on Friday afternoon to portray the life of Helen Keller. The most fascinating part of this depiction is how she does not speak throughout the show, but rather uses a recorded narration of her life as she acts. This is because Helen Keller could only somewhat speak clearly by the time she was an adult, and so the speech she used in the performance was true to the way that Helen spoke in real life. Students were in awe, and it was fun to see their faces after the show when Sheryl did the questions and answers and they realized that she was not actually blind or deaf in real life.
I hope that everyone has a wonderful February vacation week. We have had a lot of illness circulating in our building over the past month, and I am hoping that the break will allow us to get healthy as we head into the month of March. If you are traveling to warmer climates, bring the sunshine and warmth home with you!
Have a terrific week.
Warmly,
Wendy and Lauren

District Report Card
Dear Families,
Every year, each public school and school district in Massachusetts receives a report card. Just as your child’s report card shows how they are doing in different subjects, the school’s report card is designed to show families how our school is doing in different areas.
The report card includes multiple measures of a school’s performance – more than just MCAS scores. It represents a new way of looking at school performance, by providing information on student achievement, teacher qualifications, student learning opportunities, and more.
Report cards are designed to be useful tools for everyone connected to our school. Families can use the information to have meaningful conversations with us about what the school is doing well and where there is room for improvement. Community and education leaders can use the information to better understand how to support students and our school. We encourage you to become involved in helping us improve our school. We see parents as critical partners in the success of our students and school, and we are grateful for your continued support.
Finally, if your child attends a school that receives federal Title I funds, you also have the right to request the following information about the qualifications of your child’s classroom teachers:
Whether your child’s teacher is licensed in the grade levels and subject areas they teach,
Whether your child’s teacher is teaching under an emergency license or waiver,
The college degree and major of your child’s teacher, and
Whether your child is provided services by paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications.
If you have questions about our school’s report card, would like to become involved in school improvement activities, or would like to request information about the qualifications of your child’s classroom teacher, please contact me.

School Hours
Our school hours are 8:45am-3:15pm. Drop off begins at 8:45 and students who arrive after 9:00am are considered tardy. We will begin dismissal right around 3:15pm.
Due to the hectic nature of the late afternoon, we will no longer be allowing parent dismissals from the main office after 2:45pm. If your child has an appointment, please plan to dismiss him/her earlier, or make use of our pick up line at 3:15pm. Thank you for understanding.
