Dear 1st and 2nd grade Families,
Please read below to see what our AMAZING Multilingual learners are learning in ESTEEM!
In 1st and 2nd grade, students are working hard with Ms. Lana and Ms. Holly in ESTEEM. ESTEEM stands for English and Language Arts, Science, Technology, Engineering, Empathy and SEL, and Math and Music. (See our attached brochure below to learn more!) Students work with us for 60 minutes each day on listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, as well as academic vocabulary and grammar.
Our current unit is focused around the concept of Changemakers. Our BIG Conceptual Question is: How can we be effective, influential, and powerful changemakers? We are reading the Questioneers Book Series: Aaron Slater, Illustrator, Rosie Revere, Engineer, Ada Twist, Scientist, Iggy Peck, Architect, Sofia Valdez, Future Prez, Bille Jean Peat, Athlete, and Lila Greer, Teacher of the Year. We are learning the concepts: activism, inspiration, persistence, discovery, passion, advocacy, self- discovery, potential, courage, and optimism. We will participate in many experiments, challenges and projects so we can be artists, engineers, scientists, architects, advocates, athletes, and much more! We are reading and writing about being changemakers and how WE can help the world be a better place!
