News From the Principal! News From the Principal!

Dear Tierrasanta Elementary Families,

Welcome to week 11 of the school year! This week is Digital Citizenship Week. All students will be learning about device safety and acceptable online behavior. We aim to build critical thinking skills and keep our students safe while using their devices.

A big thank you to everyone who stopped by to view our Student Art Gallery last Friday in celebration of Hispanic/LatinX Heritage month. If you didn't get the chance, please enjoy the photos from the event above!

MONSTER MASH is this Friday! We are still in need of Parent volunteers to help sell/serve food and clean up after the event. If you are available for a shift please sign up here: https://www.konstella.com/app/school/57ba2ca5e4b0e226e419cbc7/signups/6acf9f7d321ac71ff4f06c19 We appreciate you!

Did you know? Here at TES we have a district funded Mental Health Clinician on site one day per week to provide services to our students. It is a short term service to help your student through a challenge they may be facing. If you are interested please reach out to Ms. Elvie Plaskota, our full time school counselor, to learn more and ask for a referral at eplaskota@sandi.net Additionally, Ms. Elvie would love to hold some parent workshops on topics related to supporting students. If you are interested, please fill out the following link so she can gather information around what times and topics would be best for parents/guardians! Thank you! https://forms.gle/e83Vhkicn1TUx9716

Our 9 week Dance Residencies (funded by our PTO) are underway for all TK-5th grade students. They are learning Hip Hop and Break Dancing from Miss Piggy or Mr. Dyno. Ask your students about their experience tonight at dinner!

Are you loving the new spirit wear you see this year!? If you didn't get a chance to order but would like to buy something the link is here for your convenience: https://spirithero.com/collections/tierrasanta-elementary-spirit-wear-on-demand

Thank you for partnering with us!

With Gratitude,

Sally Viavada

News From the PTO! News From the PTO!

Dear TES Community,

There have been some changes to the leadership of our elected PTO Board. Due to unforeseen circumstances, our PTO president and vice president have chosen to resign.

Following their announcement, the PTO Executive Board met and elected (per our bylaws) Francisca Hardy as our new President and Megan Fletcher as our new Vice President. Please join us in giving them both a warm welcome to their new roles! Francisca and Megan bring years of volunteer experience at Tierrasanta Elementary, and we are excited to work together to make this transition as smooth as possible.

We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Jennie and Mariah for their time, dedication, and hard work in supporting our school this year. We are grateful for all they contribute to the TES community.

Thank you to our entire PTO for your continued support, involvement, and commitment to making TES a wonderful place for our students.

Monster Mash is coming! Get excited! Tickets will be on sale before and after school all week (in front of school near the kinder gate). Thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers for working so hard to put this event on. We appreciate you!

Parents on Campus Policy:

We are so grateful for your continued partnership and support—it truly makes our school community stronger. As we begin the new school year, we want to share our Parents on Campus Policy, which is designed to help keep all students safe and our campus running smoothly.

The following will be enforced beginning the first week of school:

  • Once the school day begins (start bell rings at 7:35), all parents dropping off students should promptly exit campus. Only parents with a pre-scheduled volunteer time or appointment will be permitted on campus. If you would like to volunteer in your child’s class please make arrangement with your child’s teacher in advance! Teachers will be submitting volunteer schedules to the front office so we know who to expect each day.
  • If your child is late for school and needs assistance getting to class, a staff member will be happy to walk them in. (Parents on campus after the tardy bell rings is not permitted)
  • All volunteers must be cleared through the appropriate school channels (including background checks and district requirements). Anyone not properly cleared will not be allowed on campus.
  • These expectations apply to all grade levels and are meant to ensure the safety and structure of our school environment.

The policy will be included in our Volunteer Packet, which outlines how to become an approved volunteer and sign up for classroom or school activities. You may pick up a packet from Ms. Alyson in the front office. Thank you for helping us maintain a safe and focused learning environment for all students!

Cell Phone/Smart watch policy:

  • Any Cell Phones or Smart Watches (or other communication devices) must be powered off and zipped up in a backpack during school hours.

  • If your child needs to contact you, they may ask a teacher or someone in the front office to contact you for them but may not use their personal device between 7:35-2:00.

  • If you need to contact your child or get a message to them please call the front office at 619-605-2500.

  • The school will not investigate any lost, damaged or stolen communication devices.

  • District policy regarding Phone-free school day policy details, frequently asked questions and resources for families are available at www.sandiegounified.org/PhoneFreePolicy
