Weekly Update
Dear Booker Families,
As we continue our “Turnaround in Action” journey, we are proud to say that our Bengals are showing growth, grit, and great determination! Let’s keep that same momentum going—inside and outside the classroom.
🗳️ Civic Engagement Matters
Early voting is now open through October 31, and we encourage all of our Booker families and community members to make their voices heard in the November 4 Election. Voting is one of the most powerful ways to model civic responsibility for our children—our future leaders!
🎯 Academic Focus: 23 Days to MOY Testing
We have just 23 school days until our Middle of the Year (MOY) testing begins. Every lesson, every homework assignment, every effort counts toward showing how far our Bengals have come!
Parents—do you know your child’s goal? Have you discussed their strengths, areas for growth, and plans for success? Together, we can make sure every student hits their mark!
💻 At-Home Learning Tools
Please continue to support learning at home by using our STAAR practice resources on the TEA website, along with Spring ISD programs such as Amira, Amplify Boost, and i-Ready. Limit screen “table time” and encourage productive practice that strengthens reading, math, and writing foundations.
✍️ Family Engagement Challenge
This week, help your Bengal become a confident communicator!
-
Have them write what they want for dinner or from the grocery store.
-
Encourage them to write a letter to a friend or relative.
-
Ask them to speak in complete sentences and explain their thinking—this builds academic vocabulary and clarity!
-
Invite them to write down what they’re thankful for as we end October and enter a season of gratitude.
Every small action at home reinforces the big learning goals we’re striving toward at school.
💙🐾 Booker is the Best—Now Let’s Show All the Rest!
With continued partnership, focus, and pride, we will show the state—and ourselves—that Booker Elementary is a campus on the move: stronger, smarter, and shining brighter every day.
With Bengal Pride,
Mrs. Keisha Womack
Proud Principal, Booker Elementary School
“Striving for Excellence in Culture, Academics, and Results—Every Day!”
#FutureReady #TurnaroundInAction #BengalPride
- From the first stop to the last, our bus drivers keep students safe every day.
This week, we highlight school bus safety and thank our drivers for the vital role they play in education
Or use the district's dress out days!
ELECTION DAY - NOVEMBER 4TH
EARLY VOTING OPEN UNTIL OCTOBER 31ST!
Together, let's rewrite Booker’s story !
HIP HIP HOORAY ... ACADEMIC GOAL CHALLENGE COMING YOUR WAY!
🎙️ "Hey Booker Bengals!"
This is Principal Womack, and I have a BIG challenge for you! Our Middle of the Year testing is coming up — and we are laser-focused on growth!
Every Bengal has a goal, and now it’s time to HIT YOUR MOY GOAL and show what you know! If you meet your goal, you’ll earn a Winter Wonderland Play Day filled with fun, games, and surprises! ❄️🎉
And Bengals who go above and beyond — those who EXCEED their End of Year goals — will earn a trip to BIG AIR! 🎢💥
So study hard, stay focused, and remember — at Booker Elementary, we are Getting Better, Faster — One Bengal at a Time!
Let’s go, Bengals — you’ve got this! 💪💙🐾
Mindset of Mastery – No Mediocre Thinking Allowed
As we move through our 28-day countdown to mid-year testing, I want to take a moment to talk about mindset—specifically, the Mindset of Mastery.
💭 Mastery Over Mediocre
At Booker, “good enough” is no longer good enough. Our scholars deserve a learning experience built on excellence, not excuses.
We are challenging every student to aim higher:
-
Not just approaching grade-level expectations, but meeting and mastering them.
-
Not settling for “almost there,” but pushing for “I got it!”
-
Not comparing themselves to others, but striving to beat their own best.
📖 A Mastery Mindset Starts at Home
You can help by reinforcing high expectations every day:
-
Read with your child and ask comprehension questions.
-
Review math facts daily—addition, subtraction, multiplication.
-
Encourage your child to speak in full sentences and explain their thinking.
-
Set boundaries around screen time and make time for meaningful conversations.
Ask your child:
“What did you master today?”
“What skill are you still working on?”
These questions help students think critically and stay goal-oriented.
💪 We Can and We Will
Turning around a campus isn’t just about changing numbers—it’s about changing mindsets.
When students, teachers, and families all believe that mastery is possible for every scholar, the results will follow.
A school year defined by growth, grit, and greatness.
MEDICAL ALERT UPDATE!
STATE LAW - HELP US HELP YOUR CHILD WHILE AT SCHOOL!
In accordance with Senate Bill 12 (SB 12), parents now have the option to opt out of allowing their child to be seen in the school clinic during the school day.
Please note that if you choose to opt out:
Your child may only be seen in the clinic for emergency situations.
Regular or non-emergency visits to the nurse (such as headaches, stomachaches, minor scrapes, or other routine concerns) will not be allowed.
You will be contacted to pick up your child for non-emergency situations.
screenings like eyesight, hearing, and scoliosis can not be performed.
We urge you to carefully consider this decision, as opting out significantly limits our ability to support your child’s health needs during the school day.
To ensure your child can receive full care in the clinic, please complete the consent form at the link below: SB 12 Health Consent Form
If you have any questions before making this decision, please contact our school nurse:
Mrs. Hughes, RN
Phone: 281-891-8757
Thank you for your attention to this important matter and for working with us to keep all Razorbacks safe and healthy.
If you have already completed the form, we thank you for your prompt attention.
IMMUNIZATION ALERT
Kudos Kinder Parents - We went down from 65 to 9 students in 2 weeks!
Dear Parent or Guardian,
State law requires all students in Spring ISD to have up-to-date immunizations or valid exemption documentation. Some parents have received a message from SISD stating records show missing or incomplete immunizations. Students who are not compliant may be excluded from school until records are updated.

Head lice
Head lice are most commonly spread by direct head-to-head contact, and are proven to have low contagion in classrooms (American Academy of Pediatrics). Lice do not fly, and their specially adapted feet make jumping impossible and holding on to smooth surfaces like plastic or metal (i.e. helmets or headphones) very difficult. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the potential spread due to contact with an infested person’s clothing or other personal items (such as hats, scarves, coats, combs, brushes or towels) is very uncommon, and hygiene/cleanliness in the home or school has nothing to do with getting head lice.
Prevention is focused on avoiding head-to-head contact (common during play at home, child care, school, sports activities, playgrounds, slumber parties and camps) and by prompt treatment of infested persons.
Typical symptoms include:
persistent itching of the scalp;
sores on the head caused by itching;
nits (eggs) near root of hair concentrated behind ears and at nape of neck; and
live lice noted on scalp.
Please continue to educate your child about avoidance of close head-to-head contact, and check his/her scalp routinely for evidence of lice. We recommend you consult a licensed medical provider for treatment if you suspect someone in your household has head lice. Should you decide to use an over-the-counter treatment, the CDC recommends you select an FDA-approved product since most home remedies have not been proven to be safe or effective. You should follow the manufacturer's instructions strictly and treat all household members suspected to have lice.
Retreat according to product instructions (usually 7-9 days) and consider nit removal to decrease the chance of the infestation reoccurring.
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining a secure and nurturing environment we are conducting a thorough review of student records to ensure that we have the most up-to-date information, particularly regarding any medical alerts and conditions.
To ensure we can provide the best possible care and support for your child in the event of a medical issue, we want to inform you that all medical alerts and medical plans must be current and accurate. Please make sure that you have updated medication administration forms and medicat diet forms if your child needs such.
Your Child’s Health and Safety
We understand circumstances can change, so we update medical alerts as needed.
These alerts help staff respond quickly and provide support during emergencies.
Request for Medical Information
If your child has a medical issue that needs to be addressed or supported by the school nurse, please email the school nurse with the relevant information.
If your child does not have a medical issue and you would like the medical alert removed from their profile, please also email the school nurse to confirm this.
Why This Matters
Accurate and up-to-date medical information allows us to:
Respond promptly and appropriately to medical emergencies.
Support your child in maintaining academic success while managing their medical needs.
Foster a safe and supportive learning environment tailored to your child’s unique requirements.
Additional Resources and Support
If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s medical information, please contact our school nurse for assistance.
If you believe your child may need additional resources or screenings to locate, identify, and evaluate a potential disability, please visit the link below to learn more about the Child Find process:

Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to your child’s health and academic success. We greatly appreciate your partnership in creating a safe and nurturing learning environment for all our students.

🐾 Booker Bengals Parent Quick Guide: Understanding Your Child’s Data & Progress
At Booker Elementary, we believe that when families understand the data, students grow stronger! Here’s a simple way to understand your child’s test scores and how we use them to track progress toward our campus goals.
🎯 Step 1: Look at Your Child’s Data (MAP or STAAR)
We use color-coding to make it simple!
ColorPerformance LevelMeaning
🔴 RedLow / Did Not MeetNeeds significant support to reach grade level
🟠 OrangeHigh / Did Not MeetGetting closer, but still below grade level
🟡 YellowApproachingAlmost there — needs targeted support
🟢 GreenMeets Grade LevelOn grade level — right where they should be!
🔵 BlueMasters Grade LevelAbove grade level — strong mastery!
💡 Green + Blue = Academic Success!
When more students are in these two colors, our campus rating improves — that’s how we move from an “F” to a “B” or higher!
📈 Step 2: Understanding the 3 Domains of Student Success
Domain I: Student Achievement
This measures how well students perform on grade-level work (like STAAR and MAP).
👉 The goal is for students to Meet or Master grade level standards — Green or Blue!
Domain II: Student Progress
Every child may not pass yet — but all can grow!
If your child is below grade level, focus on making at least one year’s worth of progress in reading and math. Progress = Success!
Domain III: Closing the Gaps
This domain ensures no group is left behind.
We look at the progress of all subgroups —
🟣 At-Risk Students
🟢 Emergent Bilinguals
🔵 Special Education
🟠 Other Special Populations (Military, Homeless, Foster)
Each child’s growth counts! When every group grows, our whole campus improves.
🌟 How You Can Help at Home
-
Review your child’s MAP report and note their color level.
-
Ask: “What’s your goal for the next test?”
-
Read together daily — even 15 minutes helps!
-
Practice math facts, write letters, stories, or journal entries.
-
Celebrate growth — big or small!
💬 Remember:
Every child can learn and grow. Some take longer, but progress is success.
Together, we can make sure every Bengal is Future Ready! 💙🐾

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS
Parents, we want to remind you that all birthday celebrations are only 15 minutes long. To avoid long interruptions of instructional minutes, we must limit our celebrations, especially since we have a class size with sometimes 24 students. So, to help us out - we will only be accepting cupcakes and juices for birthday celebrations. No pizzas allowed. All cupcakes must be in sealed container with a label (with label) and juices must be boxed juices only. We would love to have additional treats such as pizza, but sadly we cannot afford to lose the instructional time. Please drop all birthday cupcakes off before noon or send them with your child (if they are a car rider). We want to ensure that teachers are aware of any birhtday goodies to plan their instruction around the celebrations.
Front Office Visits - Parents needing to visit the front office in the mornings and afternoons - Please enter the building through the main entrance for assistance; preferably without your child in the mornings. Children who are car riders should be dropped off first in the car rider line, then parents we ask that you park in the front visitor parking spots or the curb that is NOT THE FIRE LANE.
Door Bell and Valid ID: Proceed to the entrance with your valid ID or passport and ring the doorbell. You must show your valid ID before being buzzed in! Keep your ID out to show your ID for all transactions and requests, upon entering the building. You will be required to go through the metal detectors before proceeding to the window for assistance and proceed to the receptionist window. A valid ID or passport is required for all visitors and for all transactions!
Show respect for all stakeholders; our school, staff, and students! Be kind and respectful in your interactions with our staff members, teachers, and administrators. We want to ensure a positive environment for all and ensure the safety and security for all stakeholders. Please refrain from using profanity, disrespectful or threatening language/behaviors when interacting with our staff. Please be mindful that all clothing must be appropriate and free from inappropriate language/designs or revealing in nature.
Keep your contact information updated! If order for you to stay updated with the latest and most accurate school related information, please make sure you update your email address and phone number if you change them. Also, we need every parent to please sign up for DOJO to receive messages from your classroom teacher!
Please read our Safety Reminders below!

VISITOR PROCEDURES
RING THE DOORBELL!
Parents or guardians will be required to stand in front of an exterior camera and present valid identification, such as a driver’s license, before they are granted access to the building. This camera is positioned outside, near the main entrance, and no one will be permitted inside until their identity has been verified by the front office staff. To further enhance security, adults are asked to close the door immediately upon entering and ensure no one follows them in and must proceed through the metal detectors. Tardiness not only impacts learning but can also interfere with the seamless implementation of these protocols.
Let’s work together to ensure everyone's safety and that every student is present, on time, and ready to learn each day!
