State Testing in May

As we prepare for state testing in May, we appreciate your partnership in helping students feel confident and ready to do their best. Attendance is very important. Please make every effort to have your child at school each day and on time, especially during testing. Consistent attendance ensures students receive the instruction and practice they need. A good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast each morning also make a big difference. Well-rested students who eat a balanced meal are better able to focus and stay calm during testing. Most importantly, offer positive encouragement. Remind your child that testing is simply an opportunity to show what they have learned. If your child is feeling anxious or has concerns, please let us know so we can provide support. Thank you for your continued partnership.

Counseling Classroom Lessons

Over the past few weeks, students across grade levels have been engaged in meaningful classroom counseling lessons focused on building a positive school community.

PreK – 2nd Grade:
Our youngest learners focused on friendship skills and showing kindness. We practiced how to:

  • Use kind words and actions

  • Share, take turns, and include others in play

  • Solve small problems respectfully

We talked about how kindness helps everyone feel safe, valued, and ready to learn.

3rd & 4th Grade:
Students learned and practiced calming strategies to support emotion regulation and prepare for upcoming assessments. Strategies included:

  • Deep breathing

  • Positive self-talk

  • Visualizing

  • Progressive muscle relaxation

  • Counting

These tools help students feel more confident and focused.

5th Grade:
Our 5th grade lesson was led by student council members and focused on school climate. Students discussed areas where our school is doing well and areas for growth in the categories of:

  • Safety

  • Relationships with others

  • Community

  • Environment

This leadership opportunity empowered students to reflect, share their voices, and take ownership in making our school an even better place for everyone! I am very proud of their work!
