Evali (e-cigarette, or vaping product use associated lung injury) is a serious medical condition that as of Feb'20 the CDC has recorded 2800 hospitalizations and 68 deaths because of.

15% of these Evali patients were less than 18 years old.

Symptoms:

• Shortness of breath
• Cough
• Chest pain
• Fever and chills
• Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain
• Rapid heartbeat
• Rapid and shallow breathing

Treatments may include:

• Corticosteroids. A type of medication that reduces inflammation in the lungs and throughout the body.
• Supportive care. Patients may receive supplemental oxygen through a nasal cannula. In more severe cases, they may be put on a mechanical ventilator or an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation machine.
• Antibiotics. These drugs may be given to the patient while diagnostic test results are being finalized as it’s difficult to distinguish EVALI from bacterial infections.
• Antivirals. Because EVALI causes similar symptoms to some viral infections, antivirals may be used, especially during influenza season.

See the little bit of Fentanyl next to the penny? That's enough to be lethal. The three tubes are lethal doses as well. Fentanyl is a narcotic or opioid.

Street names: beans, green apples, apples, shady eighties, eighties, fake oxy, greenies

Drug dealers often sell it as fake oxycodone. Fentanyl is much stronger than heroin and other opioids, so when a person has laced or has been unknowingly given Fentanyl rather than what they asked for - it can be deadly. It is even hazardous for law enforcement, as a lethal dose can be accidentally inhaled or absorbed through skin contact. Because Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid, it comes at a very low cost and dealers will often lace supplies to increase potency (look below, it's super strong). It has been reported to have been laced in cannabis (weed).

• 42% of pills tested for fentanyl contained at least 2 mg of fentanyl, considered a potentially lethal dose.
• Drug trafficking organizations typically distribute fentanyl by the kilogram. One kilogram of fentanyl has the potential to kill 500,000 people.

Girls tend to be seen in statistics as having higher rates of trauma, anxiety, and depression. A contributing factor is toxic masculinity that as a society expects boys to be rough, deal with problems on their own, condones their substance use, and to be angry and aggressive.

Males are more likely to complete a fatal suicide attempt than females because males tend to choose more lethal means. This becomes more troubling when we factor in that males are not receiving the same supports or space for their feelings and problems. This can heighten their risk factors.

According to the CDC:

• In 2019, suicide was the 2nd leading cause of death in young people, 10th leading cause in nation overall.
• 47,500 deaths by suicide in 2019, which about one death every 11 minutes - this does not include thoughts and attempts
• 12 million adults seriously thought about suicide
• 3.4 million made a plan for suicide
• 1.4 million attempted suicide
