Hello UHMS,

What an amazing Spirit Rally we had on Friday! I am very proud of our Cheer & Step Team and their coaches! They exemplified leadership, positivity, and pride and got all of us on our feet cheering and moving. This event was the result of months of dedication, perseverance, and building trust with each other and themselves. Our Cheer & Step Team is made up of exemplary human beings who serve as positive role models for each of us. Their leadership has been nurtured and supported by their deeply committed coaches - THANK YOU to Mrs. Moss, Mrs. May, Mrs. Faienza, Mrs. Miller, and Mr. Nolen! Your investment and love for UHMS shone through your team!

Our Summer Reading Kick-Off is THIS TUESDAY at 4:30 pm here at UHMS. We look forward to seeing you and your children to:

• Play Literacy Games & Crafts
• Pick up our 2026 Summer Reading Challenge Packet
• Enter raffles to win books, Yard Goats tickets, gift cards, and more
• Grab free, gently-used books

The Hartford Public Library on Wheels will be with us for this event. I hope to see you here!

Immediately following our Summer Reading Kick-Off, stop by the Family & Community Engagement (FACES) office in the front of the school building to enjoy some time with your community and a sweet treat. Our UHMS PTO is sponsoring our Ice Cream Social beginning at 5;30 pm. Then, please take a tour of our school hallways to see your children's incredible Visual-Spatial work displayed throughout.

Join us for our Summer Reading Kickoff THIS Tuesday, June 2 from 4:30 – 5:30 PM! This fun-filled event designed to encourage summer reading is open to all PK–5th grade students and will have:

• engaging literacy activities and games
• gently used books for children to take home
• an exciting raffle

We hope to see you THIS TUESDAY at 4:30 pm.

Join us at 5:30 PM, immediately following our Summer Reading Kickoff, for a sweet treat sponsored by the PTO! Families will enjoy a variety of delicious ice cream treats and frozen favorites while spending time with friends and celebrating the start of summer. All UHMS families are welcome!

Medication Pick-Up

• All student medications must be picked up from the health office by the last day of school.
• Medications cannot be sent home with students.
• Any medication not picked up by the last day of school will be discarded according to school policy.

Required Immunizations
Please ensure your child’s immunizations are up to date for the upcoming school year.

• PK3 & PK4 students: A current flu vaccine is required by December 31st of the school year.
• All state-required immunizations must be submitted by the first day of school.
• Students who do not meet immunization requirements may be excluded from school in accordance with state regulations.

Required Physical Examinations
Physical examinations are required for:

• PK3 or any new students beginning PK4
• Kindergarten

Completed physical forms should be submitted at the beginning of the school year.

Medications, Medical Orders, Emergency Action Plans

If your child requires medication, medical orders, or emergency action plans for the next school year, please provide updated forms before the first day of school whenever possible. Forms can be sent to Healthservices@crec.org or faxed to 860.524.4078.

CREC will be offering Summer Learning Academy:

• Grades: Incoming 1st - 4th grade students for 2026 - 2027 school year
• Location: University of Hartford Magnet School
• Date: July 6th - July 31st
• Time: 8:30 am - 3:00 pm
• Breakfast & Lunch Provided

You should already have received an individualized communication providing you with your link to sign up your child.

The Yard Goats Summer Reading Challenge encourages students to read five (5) books (outside of the normal school year curriculum) over the Summer.

• A student MUST be signed up by a parent or guardian to participate (no schools or libraries).
• One child per submission.
• Submissions close on June 5th, no submissions will be accepted past that date.
• Submit HERE.
• After registering, you will be contacted with next steps after June 5th.

Once readers have completed 5 books PRIOR to July 31, they will receive 2 free tickets to a Yard Goats home game August 11th, 12th, or 18th. Families will have the opportunity to purchase additional tickets.

The final day of school for students will be Monday, June 22nd. The final day will be a half-day/early-release day and there will NOT be After Care.

Friday Family Meeting is one of the many things that makes UhmS the incredibly special place that it is. Friday Family Meeting brings our community together to learn from each other, sing with each other, and celebrate our Multiple Intelligences together. Every Friday, all Kindergarten - 5th grade students and staff come together in our Agora...and we want YOU to join us.

At Friday Family Meeting:

• one class hosts and runs our Friday Family Meeting
• one class presents their learning through one of the Multiple Intelligences
• we sing together as a school, led by Ms. Cordone or Ms. Micale, our fabulous music teachers or
• we enjoy Story Time with Ms. Avitabile

We will also have guest performers or guest artists at FFM. Below is the schedule of our upcoming Friday Family Meetings:
