Dear Northwood Community,

I hope you are all staying warm and safe on this unexpected long weekend. As of now, school is expected to be on a regular schedule tomorrow. Our heaters have been running, so the building will be nice and warm when students arrive in the morning. While temperatures will be quite cold outside and our safety patrols will not be stationed outdoors, we will be ready to welcome everyone with hot breakfast and lunch.

Today would have been our 100th day of school, but since we are at home, we will celebrate tomorrow, Tuesday, January 27. Students are invited to dress up as their 100-year-old selves or wear their best ’80s attire as we celebrate 100 days of learning—and 80 days left to grow this school year!

We had a wonderful schoolwide spelling bee last week. Congratulations to our winner, 5th grader Ronnie, and our runner-up, 3rd grader Sara. A big thank you to third grade teacher Mrs. Gloege and PTA sponsor Robbie Shepherd for organizing this event. We also appreciate Monica Villalobos and Morgan Naschke for planning a fantastic Donuts with Grownups, sponsored by our PTA. We are truly fortunate to have such an active and supportive PTA community.

This week, we will have early dismissal on Wednesday, January 28, and Thursday, January 29. Students will be released at 12:25 p.m. to allow time for parent-teacher conferences. These conferences are a great opportunity to connect with your child’s teacher and discuss their progress so far this year.

Friday will be a regular-length school day and will feature an exciting Career Day in the afternoon. We are looking forward to welcoming many community helpers and organizations who will share information about their career fields with our students. Please note that the front parking lot will be closed from 12:30 p.m. until the end of the school day to accommodate our special guests.

Please read below for additional details on these events and other upcoming activities. Thank you for your continued support and partnership as we move through this busy and joyful season of learning.

With warm regards,
Mrs. Harper

School Lunch

We have a wonderful cafeteria that serves breakfast and lunch daily. This year meals are provided at no charge to ALL students as part of the Community Eligibility Program. Click THIS link to watch a short video about what is included on the school breakfast or lunch tray and what items are an extra charge.

If your child wants "extras" beyond the regular school tray, you need to add money to their cafeteria account by visiting schoolcafe.com or sending in a check or cash.

  1. All visitors to campus will be required to present an ID and receive a visitors badge through the Raptor system in order to come into the building during the school day. This includes on the first day of school. We understand that this may not be convenient, but it is necessary in order to ensure safety.

School Absences

Our goal is for all of our students to maintain outstanding attendance (at least 95%).

The best way to learn is by being present at school and on time, ready to learn at 7:25 am every day! If your child needs to be absent due to illness, please be sure to send a note to school the day they return explaining the reason for the absence. Absences for illness and medical appointments will be excused with a written note. A student can have no more than 18 absences in order to recieve credit for the course/grade level.
