SY27 Wildcat Weekly

Hello, Smith Wildcat Families and Friends!
Students recently completed the beginning-of-year i-Ready assessment in reading and mathematics. The results provide a starting point that helps teachers understand each studentβs strengths, areas for growth, and readiness for grade-level learning.
Teachers will use this information to plan instruction, provide appropriate scaffolds, create targeted student groups, and identify opportunities for intervention or enrichment. The results are one source of information and do not define your childβs ability or potential.
Please encourage your child to set goals, complete assigned i-Ready lessons carefully, and continue giving their best effort. We look forward to partnering with you as we monitor progress and celebrate growth throughout the year.

Open House πππ
Wednesday, September 2nd is our Open House 4:30 - 6:00 PM
Open House is an important opportunity to meet your childβs teachers, visit classrooms, learn about academic expectations, and discover ways to support your child throughout the year. When families are involved and connected to the school, students are more likely to feel supported, stay engaged, and succeed academically.

This monthβs topic is βTech Talk: Setting Healthy Boundaries in a Digital World.β We will discuss practical ways families can promote responsible technology use, establish healthy screen-time expectations, and help children stay safe and balanced online.
We hope you will join us for an evening of helpful information, conversation, and connection. We look forward to seeing you and your family!
Expanding Learning Opportunities ππ
Spain Trip 2028
We are excited to share that we are exploring the possibility of a student trip to Spain! This experience would extend learning beyond the walls of the school and provide students with opportunities to experience Spanish culture, history, language, art, and traditions firsthand.
International travel can help students develop independence, cultural awareness, curiosity, and a broader understanding of the world. Our goal is to make this a meaningful, safe, and educational experience for participating students.
We are currently in the planning stages. We invite you to an informational meeting where we will discuss dates, eligibility, cost, fundraising opportunities, and safety expectations.
Join us Wednesday, September 16th at 5:30 PM.

IAR Results
During Open House you will be receiving your child's IAR assessment results from the 25-26 school year. The Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) is the state assessment given to students in grades 3β8. It measures how well students are meeting grade-level expectations in English language arts and mathematics. The results help families and teachers understand each studentβs strengths, identify areas for growth, and plan appropriate instructional support. The IAR is one of several measures we use to monitor student learning and readiness for future success.
This is where your child ended the year. Please make sure and review the results with your child.
Tier I Assessments
We have started giving Tier I assessments.Tier I instruction is the high-quality, grade-level teaching and support provided to every student in the general education classroom. Teachers use proven strategies, assessments, scaffolds, and student data to meet different learning needs. If a student needs additional help beyond Tier I, the school may provide more targeted support through Tier II or Tier III interventions. You will be receiving Tier I assessment results. This will be a great opportunity to review the assessment with your child and discuss areas of strength and areas for growth. Please be on the look out next week for some assessment results.
