Week 6
September 15-19, 2025
Message from the Principal
Learning Adventures
As I visit the classrooms every day, I am so proud of all the learning and engagement happening in all of our classrooms. Students are learning how to make inferences and use figurative language during reading. During writing students are diving deep into personal narratives. In math students are using rekenrek and tackling math problems by accessing multiple strategies. And this is just to name a few things.
Have you been keeping up with your teacher's Class Dojo posts and checking in with what's happening in the classroom? Are you using these week at a glance provided to you by the teachers as dinner conversation of what they are learning in school? There are so many great expanded learning opportunities. Going to school and being at school is such a huge part of our student's day. We want to make sure they know you are interested in what they do when they are away from you. Keep those questions coming!
Kinder - 2nd Parents ONLY
RDRS Screener Administration
In accordance with California Education Code Section 53008, all California schools are required to assess students from kindergarten to grade 2 for risk of potential reading difficulties using California Department of Education-approved screener.
To meet this requirement, LAUSD students will take an mCLASS© DIBELS© 8th Edition assessment in English and/or mCLASS Lectura in Spanish once per year. The results will be used to identify students who may be at risk of potential reading difficulties and to provide intervention and support.
For your information, all of our current 1st and 2nd grade students are already familiar with this test as this has been the benchmark assessment that we have been using yearly until this year's switch to iReady Reading.
What do you need to know?
Multnomah will be administering this test to all kindergarten, first, second grade students during the week of November 3-6, 2025. After administration, we will send you a report to share with you if your kindergarten, first, second grade child is at risk, or has low or no risk of reading difficulties. We will be inviting your to a parent workshop to understand your report and share ideas on how you can help or challenge your students at home while we do our part at school. There is an option for parents to opt students out of this test. If you would like to opt out, you must send a letter to your child's teacher that you do not what your child assessed with the RDRS. This letter is filed in your child's record and is only good for one school year. Letters must be received before testing administration.
