Features of the Week

College GO! Week at SCOH

College GO! Week is a great week for many reasons! Our older students can apply to several colleges for FREE, our middle school students continue to grow and learn about Hobart University and how they can earn college credits, and our younger students are introduced to many different careers and learn how Hobart University can benefit them in the future! Let's face it, we live in an era where certifications, courses, training, or degrees are required. We can assist our Brickies who want to pursue trades, attend college, join the military, and so much more.

As many know, the School City of Hobart's Hobart University was chosen to be a mentor site for other schools who are starting or growing their own college credit courses. This is incredible and shows the success that our Brickies are having as well. Since starting Hobart University in 2018 our students have saved over $4.5 million in college tuition and several have even graduated with an Associates degree!

It's no surprise that we enjoy College GO! Week as do our students! Together as a school district we celebrated each day with a different theme and our Brickies did not disappoint! Our 4th grade students took a tour at the high school where they went to different early college classes and learned from the students themselves! Then our 5th grade students all attended a zoom session with Dr. Buffington where they learned how Hobart University can help them get the best start to whatever career choice they choose! Whether college, trade, or military - having college credits and certifications when you graduate will definitely give them an advantage when they enter the workforce!

To finish off the week, every student and staff member received a new Hobart University shirt that they can wear proudly. We are proud of our students and staff for all of their hard work and successes over the past 4 years with HU and we look forward to watching everyone continue to grow.

A Colts Superfan's 'Best Thing Ever'

Thanks to the research and expertise at Riley Children's Health, when you ask 13-year-old Colts superfan Eli Otero to describe himself today, there's no hesitation. "Awesome," says the eight grader from Hobart Middle School. "Happy. More confident." Just over two years ago, it was a quite different description. Read more here.

Mug Cake Success Stories in FACs Class

We've been working on measuring dry and wet ingredients in FACs class and recently our 7th grade students made Funfetti Mug Cakes. Each student was responsible for measuring and cooking their own Mug Cake. They were EXCELLENT... on purpose, just like our Brickies!

Our Brickies have GRIT!

These ladies have not let a couple of boots stop them! There's no doubt that they've got grit... the real question is, WHO WORE IT BEST?!

Updates & Reminders

Lost & Found

With almost 1,000 kids here at HMS, we receive several lost and found items in our main office daily. In order to ensure as many of these items return to their rightful owners, we have implemented a new lost and found management system.

First, students should come to the main office to check if their item has been turned in there.

Then, if it has not yet been turned in, students should fill out the "Lost & Found Reporting Form" on Canvas. In each of the grade level "Class of" Canvas classes, there is a button labeled "Lost & Found Reporting Form."

Each week the administration will review the form to see which of the items have been turned in and return them to the student to which they belong.

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS NOT FOR STOLEN ITEMS.

Please report stolen items promptly to the main office.

Stay Informed!

The School City of Hobart uses Remind to communicate with families via text messages and/or phone calls.

What are some ways that we use Remind?

  • District News- Weekly newsletter, emergency closings, and other important information
  • Class Reminders from Teachers - Events, tests, homework, due dates
  • Announcements and Celebrations
  • One-on-One Help

If you have not been receiving our messages and would like to, please reach out to your student's teacher for their Remind class code, which you will then text to 81010. For example, if you wanted to join a class with the class code @math, you would text @math to 81010.
