School Lunch Hero Day is May 1
School Lunch Hero Day began in 2013 to honor the everyday heroes behind school meals. At Osseo Area Schools, these school lunch heroes are made up of 130 staff members in Nutrition Services, who dedicate many hours each day to ensuring students have healthy and delicious meals to power them through their academic days and beyond.
May 1 is School Lunch Hero Day, and it provides an important opportunity to recognize and thank the dedicated individuals who work to make school meals enjoyable and nutritious, all while keeping food safety standards at top of mind.
Across the district, school lunch heroes serve around 7,500 breakfast meals and 15,000 lunches each day, in addition to a la carte meals numbering between 4,000-5,000 daily.

School Library Month celebrates important spaces for learning, school community
April is School Library Month, a time to recognize the critical role that libraries play in each school community. Osseo Area Schools understands the importance of these spaces and, thanks to community support for Building a Better Future bond projects, is currently completing a multi-year project to update every library media center in the district with beautiful, functional spaces that support 21st century learning.
To date, nine library media centers have received full renovations, along with three currently under construction and 12 more in the works, including four that begin construction this summer.
In addition to the spaces themselves, the media center staff truly bring these spaces to life, with carefully curated reading materials, dynamic lessons and programming, and help desks for students and staff needing assistance.
