PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
As we head into another weekend, I have a few quick reminders to help our school days run smoothly!
Toys and Playing Cards: Please leave toys at home. Right now, we are especially asking students to keep their playing and game cards at home. While we know how much fun these cards can be, trading can sometimes lead to disagreements and distractions. Keeping them at home will help everyone focus on learning and enjoying time together at school.
Costumes: Just a reminder that we will not be wearing costumes next Friday. Thank you for helping us keep our school day running as usual!
Morning Arrival: If your child walks to school, please take a moment to check what time they are leaving home. We are beginning to see students arrive before 8:15 a.m. Please remember that students are not supervised before 8:15 a.m., so it is important that they arrive at or after that time.
I realize that’s a lot of reminders of what not to do, so let’s end on a happier note! I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. Get outside, enjoy the fresh air, find a little time to play, and make some happy memories together. We look forward to seeing everyone back at school next week!

LINES FROM THE LIBRARY
Next month, in Library, Ms. Barker will be inviting students to write letters to military veterans. The letters will be delivered at a special lunch for veterans at Morse High School. If there is a veteran in your family who your student can interview to learn more about their experience, please encourage them to do so! Some sample questions from the Library of Congress Veterans History Project can be found here. These conversations at home will help prepare the student for the class activity.
Our November food drive will kick off Friday, November 6! We will be collecting dried pasta for the Bath Area Food Bank. Please WAIT to send any dried pasta in, this is just a heads up!
Russell Street Neighborhood
Heads up for parents who park off property during morning drop-off or afternoon pickup!
Our friends at the Bath PD let us know that parking on the nearby Russell Street is getting pretty dangerous and causing some traffic issues.
If you usually park on the street during these times, please follow these quick rules to keep everyone safe:
- No parking on the South side of Russell Street: Keep this side completely clear.
- Park only on the North side of Russell Street: You must park with the flow of traffic, not against it. Your car should be facing High Street.
- Keep crosswalks clear: Never block a crosswalk, even for a quick second.
To keep things moving smoothly around the neighborhood, use this quick loop from High Street:
- Turn from High Street onto Palmer Street
- Take a left onto Maxwell Street
- Take a left onto Russell Street
Check out the handy map below to see exactly how it works. Thanks so much for being a good neighbor and keeping our kids safe!
The Falcon Way: Attendance Matters Every Day
Sleep recharges!
Playing with friends, participating in sports, learning at school, and other activities make for busy days. By the end of the day, everyone needs sleep.
The American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommends that children ages 6 to 12 sleep 9 to 12 hours per 24 hours to promote optimal health.
Tips for bedtime
• Help your child prepare for school the night before by laying out their clothes, backpack, etc.• Set up a routine where children and youth slow down before bed and go to bed about the same time every night, whether it’s a weekday or weekend.
• Don’t use screens at least one hour before bedtime.
• Make the bedroom a cozy place where your child can relax.
• Make the bedroom a screen-free zone.
BACKPACK PROGRAM
We’re excited to announce that the Backpack Program is back for the 2026–27 school year!
Every Thursday, participating students will bring home a grocery bag filled with healthy, kid-friendly, shelf-stable food—three meals and snacks to enjoy. Think of it as a little care package from school! In the past, bags have included items like ravioli, cereal with milk, granola bars, fruit cups, and, of course, the all-time favorite—macaroni and cheese.
Who can join? All Fisher Mitchell students are welcome—this program is open to everyone and not based on financial need.
We also now offer a free produce table on the second Wednesday of every month that doesn't require signing up. If you sign up for the backpack program, we will send home produce once a month with your student to provide you with fresh fruits and vegetables.
To enroll your student in the Backpack Program, it is easy!
Just email sderosa@rsu1.org and include your students name and their teacher.
ATTENDANCE & DISMISSAL EMAIL
Parents and guardians must report all student absences and tardies directly to the Front Office first thing in the morning. Please do not send notes with your student or notify teachers. Reporting directly to the office ensures immediate updates and prevents unnecessary morning safety check calls.
Please use one of the two official channels below:
- Email: fms-attendance@rsu1.org
- Phone: Call 443-8265 and press 1 to leave a voicemail in the student absence mailbox (please avoid calling the main office).
Please include: the student's full name, the date, and the reason for the absence/tardy. If your child has a contagious illness that the school should be aware of, please include that details as well.
Parents/guardians must report all dismissal changes directly to the Front Office.
Students cannot change their dismissal plans without explicit parent/guardian consent.
Report daily changes by 2:00 PM using one of these options:
- Email: fms-attendance@rsu1.org
- Phone: Call 443-8265
