Key Items
- The Board of Education added a discussion item to the agenda regarding the outcome of the election, status of HB96 (the state biennium budget process), and the $7.3-million reduction plan. Mr. Enix provided the following updates:
- Montgomery and Greene County Boards of Elections certifying that HHCS lost the election by a vote of 2729 to 2726.
- Automatic recount takes place June 5 at 9 a.m. HHCS has retained legal counsel to represent the district’s interests throughout this process.
- State budget bill is still in process. HB96, which has already passed, includes provisions that would reduce carryover balances for school districts to 30% of the annual budget. This change will have extremely negative impacts on school districts across the state.
- A review of the reduction package approved in February, pending the outcome of the election.
- Following the discussion, the Board approved adding an action item to the agenda and subsequently voted 4-1 to table the reduction plan for 2025-2026.
Five-Year Forecast
- Mr. Janson presented the Five-Year Forecast (FYF) for May 2025 just prior to the Board discussion item above. The FYF is an updated projection of revenue and expenses since it was last approved in November. The May forecast did not include additional revenue from the levy or the reduction package items due to the pending election recount and the budget bill still in process. View the May Five-Year Forecast.
- Mr. Enix and Mr. Doll presented an update on the ongoing transportation audit, which includes recommendations for 2025-2026. Recommendations include modifying start/end times for our buildings to allow for greater transportation efficiency. No Board action was taken on the recommendations; they are anticipated to be on the June agenda. View the presentation.
