The Principal's Corner by Ms. Mahoney

This has been one of the coldest and snowiest seasons that I can remember! I appreciate everyone's work, behind the scenes, and in your homes, making our non-traditional instructional days (NTID) work and for your support of your children during these days. We would always opt for everyone to be IN person, at SJES, there are times when it is unavoidable. We currently have three NTID days remaining so if there is a hint of snow in the forecast, our students in grades 3 - 5 will bring home their Chromebooks just in case. Our students in grades PreK-2 will continue to work on their choice boards during these days.

We will also continue getting fresh air and going outside at recess (on the blacktop, while we wait for all the snow and ice to melt). Please make sure your children have warm coats to wear and that you write their names INSIDE their coats. There are often coats, stripped off during recess, left behind. For weeks. Sometimes, months. If a name is inside, we can quickly and easily find the owner of the coat.

Here's to Spring (I'm going to choose to NOT believe Phil the groundhog and his prediction of six more weeks of winter) and more hours of light each day!

Ms. Mahoney

Each week, a SJES staff member is asked to select a student that is exemplifying the SJES motto, "Respect Yourself, Respect Others and Respect our School", during the school day. It's our opportunity to highlight the accomplishments of a special student who is caring, kind, compassionate, a hard worker, responsible and trustworthy. It is truly an honor to be recognized as our Student of the Week because you are selected from over 400 students. We select a student in grades K - 2 and a student in grades 3 - 5. If your child is selected, an envelope is sent home the week before, for you to gather photos or special awards/mementos that will help us decorate the Student of the Week board in the front hall.

Congratulations to the Students of the Week in January:

Finley Andrew (nominated by Mr. Atkins)

Joseph Reimer (nominated by Miss Decker)

Micaiah Amoh (nominated by Mrs. Fuller)

Quinn Davis (nominated by Mrs. Chrisman)

Nolan Mahmutagic (nominated by Ms. Brooks)

Milana Clevenstine (nominated by Mrs. Nedorostek)

Congratulations to all!
