⌛ CELEBRATING THE RICH HISTORY OF EAGLE STADIUM!!
We celebrate one of the top moments in the 24-year history of EAGLE STADIUM.
On Nov. 3, 2011 the Eagles were 8-1 and hosted arch rival a 9-0 Sanger in the first-ever televised game on this field. It was billed as a clash of two of the state’s top quarterbacks and a battle for a district title—but our Eagles made it clear from the start who was in charge.
Behind quarterback Austin Aune (pictured), Argyle jumped out to a fast 17–0 lead, while the defense shut down Sanger’s high-powered offense, sacking their QB four times and intercepting him four more. By the end of the night, Argyle had rolled to a 38–16 win, clinching their fourth straight district championship in front of the cameras and a packed house. And that was just the beginning. That 2011 team went on an incredible playoff run—taking down not one, but two defending state champions—on their way to the state championship game at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
That night against Sanger was the spark, showing the heart of Argyle football: tough defense, explosive plays, and the resilience to rise when the lights are brightest.
Members of the 2011 team will be recognized at Friday's game!
