Hillsdale Herald
Hillsdale Elementary School, November 2022, v. 1
October 28, 2022
Another great day for the students at Hillsdale with our Halloween Parade and Parties today. Thank you to our community for the costume donations and all the parents that made the parties fun!
Conferences
We hold Parent Teacher Conferences the week of Thanksgiving. I will be sending a separate newsletter with specific information and a sign up link next week. The link will be live on Tuesday Nov. 1st at 8:30am
Change of Clothes
Please be sure as the season changes, that your child has a seasonally appropriate change of clothes in their backpack. All kids have accidents - chocolate milk, bloody noses, etc. and they prefer to change into their own clothes when this happens.
Lost and Found
Our Lost and Found has a lot of great sweatshirts! Please remind your child to look for their missing and lost items. We will be donating the collection at the end of the month. If your child's name is visible, we will return what we can.
Cafeteria Update
Students in grades 2- 5 are permitted to purchase one snack at lunch time, The selection of items varies based on availability. Please discuss with your child if you would like them to buy snack or not.
We prefer parents put money in their child's account online through PayforSchools. If you send in cash or check, please put it in an envelope with your child's Student ID# on it. Change will be added to your child's account. We do not have cash in the building.
Please check out info below for Gifted PAC craft fair next weekend and YMWIC College & Career Expo Nov 12th.

Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)
Several of our parents came in to create this beautiful ofrenda in our lobby. While Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) originated in Mexico and Central America, on Nov 1-2, many Hispanic families across the world celebrate the lives of family members that have passed away. There is often music, dancing, special food, and colorful papel picado (perforated paper). Symbols of marigolds, Monarch butterflies and colorful skulls are common and meaningful in the decorations and celebrations. All of our students have been learning about this tradition and sharing crafts they made for our display.
Nurse Notes
- Reminder that Mrs. Dugan will be collecting candy for the troops on November 1st and 2nd. Please send the candy in a bag or baggie. THANKS!
- As we approach the colder weather, please make sure your children are dressing appropriately for the weather. Kindergarten and 1st grade students-please make sure you child(ren) has a weather appropriate change of clothes in their backpack.
- As we approach Halloween and other holidays, I would appreciate it if you would remind your child(ren) that they should not share food and drink with friends or classmates, as we have many students with a variety of life threatening food allergies. If you have a child who has life threatening food allergies, please remind them of the importance not accepting/sharing food or drink from classmates or friends.
- We are seeing the return of contagious illnesses that we did not see during Covid. Please remind your child(ren) to cover their cough in their elbow and wash their hands frequently. As always, we ask that you keep your child(ren) home if they are sick.
- WCASD is returning to regular attendance policies. If you child was home sick, please send a note in to Mrs. Fithian. If you are sending a doctor’s note, the note must include the reason the student was absent and could not attend school as well as the dates for the exclusion.
Please contact Mrs. Dugan if you have any questions.
