From the Principal's Desk

Hello Little Viking Families,

I can't believe this is our last newsletter of May. We only have 8 more days of school this year (5 for Preschool!)

Here are a few important reminders for the last few days and end of the school year:

1) K-2nd Zoo field Trip is Friday 5/29. Classroom teachers should have contacted those parents who were chosen as chaperones. If you have a question, please reach out to your child's teacher. School hours are the same on this day, and we return from the zoo in time for regular dismissal.

2) Last Day of Preschool is Monday, June 1st. PreK Step Up day is Tuesday, June 2nd at 9:00 am Please plan to arrive with your child. Doors will open at 8:50 am. Join us after the step-up ceremony for a preschool celebration on the nature playground!

3) Last day of school for K-2nd grade is Thursday, June 4th. It is a half day, students dismiss at 10:50 am.

4) Student devices WILL NOT be sent home this summer. Student chrome books and chargers will begin to be collected next week. See the tech update below for details.

LAST DAY OF SCHOOL TRADITION!

It is a tradition on the last day of school for staff to congregate on the sidewalk and wave to the buses and parade of parents as everyone leaves for summer. While not mandatory, we invite you to exit through the staff parking lot, following the buses, to wave goodbye for the summer. Please note that the connection is a raised speed bump, use caution with lower cars, and that this will probably add a few extra minutes to your departure time, as buses typically don't pull out until 5 -10 minutes after the final bell

If you plan to participate, please stay in your cars until the buses begin to pull away (so parents who choose not to participate can leave the parking lot on Frontage Road).

Mrs. Scanlan will be in the parking lot to help direct and wave goodbye, too!

Have a great weekend,

-Mrs. Scanlan

Technology Changes Technology Changes

Dear Parents,

As we approach the end of the school year, we want to share important information regarding student Chromebooks and access to school resources over the summer.

Chromebook Collection
All school-issued Chromebooks and their chargers will be collected before the last day of school. This year, we will be replacing our entire fleet of Chromebooks. This is great news because we are ensuring students have updated, reliable devices for the upcoming school year. Per the District 48 Parent & Student Handbook (25-26), estimated costs for lost, intentionally damaged, or stolen items (subject to change) are as follows:

  • Device Replacement - $500.00

  • Stylus - $35 - 60

  • Charging Cord - $30 - $55

Access to School Accounts Over the Summer
Students will continue to have access to their school accounts during the summer months. If your child wants access to the district-provided educational resources, such as i-Ready, they may do so by logging in on a personal device using their school email address and password.

How to Set Up a Profile for Student Access

  • Open the Google Chrome (or Edge) browser on your personal device

  • In the top right corner, click the profile icon (circle with a picture or initials)

  • Click “Add Chrome Profile” or “Add new Profile.”

  • Click ‘Sign In” in the window that pops up

  • Students will enter their school email address (ending with @saltcreek48.org) and click “Next”

  • Students will enter their password and click “Next.”

  • When prompted to turn on sync, click “Yes, I’m In” (this will allow all their bookmarks, settings, and saved passwords to be transferred)

Using a separate Chrome profile helps keep your child’s school account separate from personal or family accounts. This prevents issues like being logged into the wrong Google account, ensures school apps and extensions work properly, and keeps bookmarks, history, and saved work organized for school use only.

Please note that while summer access will remain available, there will be no access in early August when we roll over our class lists from one year to the next.

If you have any questions or need assistance with login information, please contact your school’s main office.

Thank you for your continued support, and we wish you and your family a safe and enjoyable summer!

Attention Parents - School doors open at 7:40 am. There is no staff supervision prior to this time. Classes start at 7:50 am.

Students who come in late find it harder to establish a good morning routine at school. Teachers are beginning instruction and a late student is missing out. Thank you for your assistance in making sure your students arrive to school on time!

Standard Response Protocol

Salt Creek District 48 has adopted an emergency protocol response from the I Love U Guys Foundation. This is a program that has been adopted by many of the schools within DuPage County. Over the summer, the administrative team attended training on the protocol and is passing along the training to all staff. We also want to make families aware of the five different protocols so you can be familiar with the language you may hear your child or the school use.

In your parent portal in skyward, click on the fee payment tile, then in the far right hand top corner click on the "make online payments" button. This will take you to Revtrak. Make sure to sign up before you try to make payment. Once you can sign in, click the Make a Payment button in the middle of the page. This new service will streamline the payments so you can make a payment or set up recurring payments. This is directly connected to Skyward so you see the money immediately go to your child's account. If you have any questions please email or call your school office.

Preschool Payments: Once in Revtrak you will see in the upper right area an arrow next to SHOP. Click the arrow and pick Preschool in order for you to complete your payment. If you have any questions please email or call the Salt Creek school office.
