Longhorn Letter
2026-2027
October 19, 2026
Hello Longhorn Parents,
This past week, we welcomed our new Assistant Principal to the Longhorn Family, Ms. Christina Ozuna. Ms. Ozuna is coming to us from Jefferson Middle School, where she taught Math for the past 15 years. Ms. Ozuna also has experience as the testing and 504 coordinator. Ms. Ozuna is married and has three children, two boys and a girl. We are blessed to have Ms. Ozuna joining the Longhorn Family.
As we remain committed to providing a safe and positive environment for all Longhorns, please continue to have conversations with your students regarding behaviors before and after school, during passing periods, and at lunch.
We continue to see students writing incident reports regarding the use of inappropriate language, gestures, and name-calling from other students. We are also continuing to see pushing, shoving, and horseplay. Our number one priority is to provide a safe learning environment for your students. Please continue to have discussions with your students regarding appropriate Longhorn behavior.
In addition, we are noticing an uptick in students having their cell phones out during school hours. Please remind your student of the cell phone expectation during school. For Longhorns, this time frame is from 8:33-3:55.
Remember that if Luna is participating in an off-campus event such as a basketball game or concert, students will need to be accompanied by an adult. We thank you for your understanding and support as we work to ensure that Luna students are safe at all times.
Thank you for your continued support. Have a great week.
Volunteers Needed
Hello Longhorns,
We are in need of parents who are willing and able to volunteer at Luna. We would love to have additional support during passing periods and lunch. If you are interested, please complete the NISD Volunteer Application along with the NISD Volunteer Background Check.
If you are interested, reach out to luna@nisd.net
We appreciate your support,

What can you do at home?
- Set Up Parental Controls: Use router apps to pause Wi-Fi at bedtime, enable Apple Screen Time or Google Family Link, and turn on browser SafeSearch.
- Protect Personal Data: Teach kids "never-share" rules for their full name, address, or NISD school name. Turn off GPS location tags on camera and social media apps.
- Talk Openly About Online Risks: Have ongoing conversations about cyberbullying, online strangers in gaming, and the permanent nature of digital footprints.
- Create a Safe Reporting Space: Reassure your child they won't get in trouble or lose device privileges if they come to you after encountering something scary or uncomfortable online. Establish a central charging station outside bedrooms at night to encourage safe, restful habits.
