📬 Dear Booth Hill Families,

Welcome back to a brand-new school year at Booth Hill School! I hope your summer was filled with relaxation, adventure, and cherished moments with loved ones. There is a unique energy that fills our building this time of year, and our staff could not be more excited to open our doors, welcome our Bobcats back, and begin another journey of growth together.

To start our year, I read The Day You Begin by Jacqueline Woodson to our school at an opening assembly. This beautiful story reminds us that stepping into a new space, or returning with new goals, takes courage. It emphasizes that every child brings a unique voice, background, and strength to our school. We want every Bobcat to know that who they are matters, and that Booth Hill is a place where their story is welcomed and celebrated.

As we look ahead, our team is deeply committed to nurturing both the academic success and emotional well-being of every student. This year, our collective focus rests on three key pillars:

  • Learning Targets: Providing clear, intentional goals for every lesson so students understand the purpose behind their work.

  • Teacher Clarity: Ensuring our instruction, expectations, and feedback are explicit and accessible, empowering students to take active ownership of their learning.

  • Restorative Practices: Strengthening our community culture by prioritizing strong relationships, empathy, and constructive problem-solving whenever challenges arise.

When students understand where they are going academically and feel safe, respected, and connected socially, there is no limit to what they can achieve.

A strong school community thrives on partnership. To our parents, families, PTA, Father’s Club, and community supporters, thank you in advance for your dedication, enthusiasm, and collaboration. Together, we make Booth Hill a safe, joyful, and inspiring place to learn.

Let’s make this an incredible year!

Warmly,

Kevin Chase

Around the School Around the School

Transportation

We are working closely with our Transportation Department to ensure a safe and efficient commute for all students. As everyone adjusts to the start of the school year, please keep the following in mind regarding bus routes:

  • First-Week Adjustments: Minor timing delays are common during the first few days as drivers adjust to new routes and routines.

  • Street-Crossing Safety Policy: For safety reasons, students are not permitted to cross certain designated streets to board or exit the bus. If you see your child's bus pass your house on the opposite side of the road, the route is designed to loop around and drop off or pick up on the correct side of the street.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we smooth out these early routine adjustments!

Back to School Night, Thursday, September 3, 6:30-8:00

Dear BHS Families,

We are excited to welcome you to our annual Back to School Night on Thursday, September 3. To ensure everyone can focus on the key details for the upcoming year, this is an adult-only event. We look forward to partnering with you for a safe, positive, and inspiring 2026–2027 school year!

Virtual Presentations (Available Sept. 1)

To maximize your in-person time, presentations from all grade levels, specialists (Art, Music, PE, Library), and administration will be hosted on a central Padlet board. A link will be emailed to families on Tuesday, September 1. Please review these presentations in advance to learn about grade-level curricula and expectations.

In-Person Schedule: Thursday, September 3

  • 6:30 PM – 7:15 PM: Families with last names A–M

  • 7:15 PM – 8:00 PM: Families with last names N–Z

What to Expect

  • Open House Format: Tour classrooms, visit special area spaces, and meet teachers. Feel free to visit multiple spaces—you do not need to remain in one classroom for the entire session. We kindly ask that you depart promptly at the end of your scheduled time block.

  • Get Involved: Sign up for the PTA, Fathers’ Club, and various volunteer opportunities during your visit.

  • Focus of the Evening: This event is designed to familiarize you with the school environment and curriculum. It is not an opportunity for individual student-teacher conferences.

  • Administration: Based on parent survey feedback, we eliminated the formal principal address. My presentation will be posted on the Padlet, allowing me to walk around and chat with families during both session windows.

Parking Instructions

Please make every attempt to park in the school lot. If side-street parking is necessary, park on one side of the street only to ensure emergency vehicles can pass safely.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Safety Safety

Car Drop-off and Pick-Up

Please stay as far to the right side of the entry when arriving for morning drop-off. Staff need to be able to pass by to enter the parking lot.

To help our dismissal run smoothly and safely for all students, please be in the back car pick-up line by 3:20 PM if you are picking up by car. We’ve noticed arrival times are gradually getting later, which delays the line and impacts everyone’s afternoon schedule. Being in line by 3:20 allows us to dismiss students efficiently and keeps the process calm and predictable for children.

Please turn off your vehicle if you arrive early to drop-off or pick-up. Idling is prohibited.

Thank you for partnering with us to keep dismissal safe and smooth!

2025-2026 Family Handbook

Please remember to take time to read our handbook.

Labeling Items

We encourage families to label items such as water bottles, lunch boxes and outerwear with a name so that if they are misplaced they can be returned quickly to students.

A Note from the Transportation Department

The start of school is a busy time of year and our priority is that all students are assigned a bus stop location before the start of school and that stop concerns are resolved quickly. This is a reminder that all requests for bus stop changes or bus stop concerns need to be submitted online using our Transportation Action Report found by clicking the hyperlink CLICK HERE. For immediate assistance, you can reach the Transportation Department at 203-452-4321.

Lost Items on the Bus: Any items left on the bus are brought to the Bus Depot at the end of the day. Please call Durham at 203-261-4329.

Parent pick-up: Visitors are prohibited from entering school grounds during school hours without checking in at the main office. The earliest that we authorize cars to enter cueing for pick-up is 2:45. Additionally, small barricades have been placed right near the storage trailer to prevent cars from traveling any further until Mr. T moves them at 3:00. Do not attempt to turn left off of Booth Hill Road into the school driveway. Proceed straight and join at the end of the line. This will allow us to maintain a safe and secure environment for our children.

Chromebook Insurance: Grade 5 Families

The Trumbull Public Schools will be offering the option for parents to purchase Chromebook Insurance for grades 5-8 students as part of our 1:1 Device Insurance Program. Each student in grades 5-8 is issued a district managed Chromebook that is to be used as a tool to support their learning. Students are responsible for bringing their Chromebook from home to school each day and it is expected to be fully charged and available when needed during the school day. The 1:1 Device Insurance Program is designed to protect students and families in the event that the Chromebook issued to a student is stolen, damaged, or malfunctions due to no fault of the student. Students and parents may be charged for any damage resulting from intentional damage to the device caused by the student or for lost devices.

This program covers all accidental damage to the Chromebook or theft of the device subject to the following: $0 deductible for the first two occurrences per year and $50 deductible per occurrence thereafter. This coverage is effective for the duration of the school year. Insurance must be renewed annually.

The cost for the 2025-2026 school year is $25.00 per device, per child. If a family does not elect to purchase the insurance, the family will be responsible for the full cost of replacement parts plus labor or full replacement cost of the Chromebook if it can not be repaired. A typical repair for a screen replacement is approximately $85, which is why the district encourages parents to purchase the insurance to limit their liability in case of accidental damage to the device. Chromebook insurance does not cover intentional damage or lost devices, chargers or cases.

For additional information on the program please refer to Board of Education 5143.2 Student One-to-One Device Insurance Program. Families experiencing economic hardship may request a fee waiver by contacting the appropriate school administrator and following the process outlined in Board of Education 5138/Pay to Participate Policy.

Enrollment and payment for the 1:1 Device Insurance Program will be processed via the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. To purchase the insurance login to the Parent Portal, and select School Store>Technology>Chromebook Insurance on the left menu. Click here to access step-by-step instructions for adding the insurance and completing payment online.

Parents must elect the insurance no later than 9/30/2025. ENROLL NOW
