Quarter 2: Building on Our Progress, Strengthening Our Partnership!
Dear Hogan Families and Scholars,
Happy October, Ram Family!
It is hard to believe that we are already approaching the end of our first quarter! As I reflect on the beginning of the 2026–2027 school year, I am incredibly proud of the hard work, determination, and commitment demonstrated by our scholars, teachers, staff, and families. We have so much to celebrate, and even more to look forward to as we prepare to begin our second quarter on October 23!
At Hogan Preparatory Academy, our commitment remains the same: Raise the Rigor 2.0: Engage. Empower. Excel. We are focused on providing high-quality instruction, challenging our scholars to think critically, strengthening literacy and mathematics skills, and ensuring every scholar has the support needed to succeed.
As we transition into Quarter 2, I want to encourage our scholars to reflect on their progress. What are you doing well? Where can you improve? What goals will you set for the next quarter? Remember, academic excellence is not just about grades. It is also about developing strong habits, demonstrating perseverance, taking responsibility for your learning, and giving your very best effort each day. These skills will not only impact postsecondary readiness, but also, the skills that most employers say they want in their employees. Someone who is reliable, coachable, solution oriented, an effective communicator, can work in teams, and is a critical thinker/ problem solver.
Parent-Teacher Conferences: Let's Partner for Scholar Success!
One of our most important events this month is Parent-Teacher Conferences, October 28–29!
Parent-Teacher Conferences provide an opportunity to connect with teachers, celebrate accomplishments, discuss academic progress, and identify ways we can work together to support your scholar's continued growth.
Conference Schedule

High School: 3:00–7:00 PM
Middle School: 4:00–7:00 PM
Thursday, October 29
High School: 8:00 AM–2:00 PM
Middle School: 10:00 AM–5:00 PM
Please watch for additional information from your scholar's school regarding conference scheduling.
Middle School families will receive first-quarter report cards, while High School families will receive mid-semester progress reports reflecting their scholar's academic standing as we enter the halfway point of first semester.
Our goal is simple: Every family informed. Every scholar supported. Every opportunity to succeed!
Thank you for your continued partnership and for being such an important part of our Ram Family!

SHOW UP, STAND OUT, SUCCEED!
Every Day. Every Class. Every Scholar.
At Hogan Preparatory Academy, attendance matters! Our goal is for every scholar to maintain at least 90% attendance by showing up to school, arriving to class on time, and being ready to learn every day.
Every missed day is a missed opportunity. Excessive absences can impact academic success, result in lost credits, delay grade promotion or graduation, and potentially lead to truancy court involvement.
We know challenges happen, and Hogan is here to help! If transportation, housing, family circumstances, or other barriers are affecting your scholar's attendance, please reach out. We want to work with families to identify solutions and connect them with available resources.

October–December 2026 | Rigor 2.0
Dear High School Ram Fam,
As we continue our school year, we remain committed to academic success, student accountability, and strong family partnerships. Please review the important announcements, school expectations, and upcoming events below. Your continued support helps our scholars engage, empower, and excel!
CELL PHONE POLICY
To protect instructional time and keep students focused on learning, Hogan has implemented the Statewide Mandate of the No Cellphone in school law. We understand that many students have them who participate in after school activities or they drive home however please be aware that Hogan Prep High School will enforce the following cell phone policy:
First Offense — Warning: The student receives a verbal warning.
Second Offense — Teacher Confiscation: The teacher takes the phone and returns it at the end of the class period.
Third Offense — Administrative Confiscation: An administrator takes the phone to the front office, where it may be picked up at the end of the school day.
Repeated Offenses: Continued violations may result in In-School Suspension (ISS) up to Out of School Suspension (OSS).
We appreciate families reinforcing this expectation with our scholars. Protecting instructional time is everyone's responsibility!

ACT waivers will also be available during parent-teacher conferences on October 28 and 29.
Students are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity as they prepare for their college and career goals. Families are encouraged to speak with their scholars about planning ahead and exploring opportunities for postsecondary success.
ATTENDANCE MATTERS!
Every instructional minute counts! Consistent attendance and punctuality are essential to academic achievement and student success.
Please remember:
Tardies accumulate and can contribute to a student's overall absences.
Excessive tardiness and absences can affect academic progress and course completion.
Families should communicate with the school regarding absences and attendance concerns.
Students are expected to arrive at school and class on time and be prepared to learn.
DRESS CODE REMINDER
Students are expected to follow the school's dress code policy each day. Families are encouraged to review the attached dress code information with their scholars to ensure compliance and avoid disruptions to the school day.

Ms. Steffanie Long, HPA Middle School Principal
Hello, Hogan Families!
October is here, and we have so much to celebrate! Our scholars and staff have worked hard to start the school year strong, and September gave us several reasons to be proud.
We reached 90% attendance for the month of September, and so many of our scholars earned the opportunity to celebrate their attendance and positive behavior with our Sky Zone field trip! We are incredibly proud of our scholars who showed up, made positive choices, and earned this experience.
We also had strong participation and completion during our beginning-of-year NWEA assessments. This data will help our teachers identify scholars' strengths, target areas for growth, and provide the right academic support throughout the year.
And we can't forget our fall athletes! Shout-out to our football and volleyball teams and our cheerleaders for representing Hogan with pride, teamwork, and school spirit. Let's carry this momentum into October!
Next Attendance Challenge: Silent Dance Party!
Literacy Focus: Read It + R.A.C.E.S.
At Hogan Middle, literacy is everyone's responsibility.
This month, scholars will continue using our schoolwide Read It + R.A.C.E.S. strategy across content areas. R.A.C.E.S. gives scholars a consistent way to organize their thinking and strengthen their written responses:
R – Restate the question
A – Answer the question
C – Cite evidence from the text
E – Explain your evidence
S – Summarize your response
How Families Can Help
Encourage your scholar to read at home during the evenings and on weekends. It doesn't always have to be a school assignment! Books, articles, magazines, biographies, and other age-appropriate texts all provide opportunities to build reading stamina. Afterward, try asking: “What did you read? What evidence from the text supports your thinking?” Those simple conversations reinforce the same skills scholars are practicing at school.
Family-Teacher Conferences
Wednesday, October 28 | 4:00–7:00 PM
Thursday, October 29 | 10:00 AM–5:00 PM
Friday, October 30 | No School for Scholars – Teacher Work Day
Family-Teacher Conferences are an important opportunity to connect with your scholar's teachers, celebrate progress, review grades and academic data, and discuss areas where additional support may be needed. Additional information about the conference format will be shared with families as we get closer to the dates. Including, how to schedule time with specific teachers!
Uniform Reminder
Families, please help us ensure scholars arrive at school in the appropriate uniform each day. Scholars should wear a Hogan polo or solid maroon, black, navy, or white polo with khaki, black, or navy bottoms. Hoods and headphones must be removed during classroom instruction. Thank you for helping us maintain a learning environment where scholars are prepared and ready for the day.
Cell Phones: Help Us Protect Learning Time
Cell phones can quickly become a distraction from learning. Scholars should not use cell phones during instructional time. Families, please reinforce this expectation at home. If you need to reach your scholar during the school day, contact the main office rather than calling or texting your scholar during class.
With appreciation,
Ms. Steffanie Long
