PS 199 November Newsletter
November 11, 2024
From the Principal
As we settle into November, I wanted to reach out with a few updates and a heartfelt thank you. It’s been wonderful to see all the progress our students are making, and I’m so grateful for the amazing support you bring to our school community. Your involvement truly makes a difference, and it shows every day.
Looking ahead, please note a couple of upcoming days off that will give students and staff some time to rest and recharge. Also, to give everyone a little more time for meaningful conversations, we’ve moved our Parent-Teacher Conference to December 5. We hope this adjustment will allow for thoughtful discussions about your child’s growth and goals.
Thank you for all you do. I look forward to connecting with many of you over the next few weeks and continuing to make this year a fantastic one for our students.
Warmly,
Mr. Daliposki
Report Cards
I wanted to share some important updates regarding our report card distribution and the upcoming parent-teacher conferences.
First, thank you for your understanding regarding our full school day on November 7. Although this date is typically set aside for citywide report card distribution, we chose to extend our timeline to ensure a more complete reflection of each student’s progress.
Report cards will now be available the week of December 2 through your NYCSA account. We believe that taking this additional time allows us to provide the most accurate picture of your child’s achievements and growth.
Looking ahead, December 5 will be a half-day for students, as we’ll be hosting our parent-teacher conferences. This is a valuable opportunity to connect with teachers about your child’s progress and address any questions you may have.
Thank you, as always, for your partnership and support. We look forward to seeing you at the conferences!

Important: Opt-Out Option for Charter School Mailings
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We want to inform you about an important option available to you and your family. The Department of Education (DOE) is offering students and families the ability to opt out of receiving informational mailings from charter schools through a company named Vanguard.
The DOE shares students’ names, parents’ names, mailing address, zip code, and grade level with a vendor named Vanguard. Vanguard then mails charter school information to families.
If you would like to opt out of these mailings, please complete the Charter School Informational Mailing Notice and Opt-Out Form by October 31.
Here’s what you need to do:
- If you do not wish to receive charter school information mail, please fill out and submit the survey no later than October 31.
- If you miss this deadline, you can submit the survey by January 15 to stop receiving the mailings after March. You will need to submit a survey for each of your children.
- When completing the survey, you will need your child’s student identification number
Please note that this opt-out process is optional. Families are not required to complete the form if they do not wish to opt out.

Message from Chancellor Aviles-Ramos
My Commitment to You
Dear Families,
I am honored and excited to be your new Chancellor. As a lifelong educator and mom of a New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) student, I am eager to work with and serve you.
When I was a child growing up in the Bronx, my mother taught me that education was the ticket to a life of prosperity and fulfillment. I decided to become a teacher in 2007 because I, like my mother, believe in the power of education to change lives.
I began my career in the classroom at Harry S. Truman High School and went on to become an administrator at both the school and district levels. As chief of staff to former Chancellor Banks, I spearheaded Project Open Arms, a multi-agency effort to welcome and support our 45,000-plus newest New Yorkers. In my most recent role, I served as the Deputy Chancellor of Family and Community Engagement and External Affairs, fostering partnerships between families, schools, and communities.
I know this school system inside and out—and with each passing year, I grow even more amazed at the talent of our staff, the innovation in our classrooms, the dedication of our families and parent leaders, and the brilliance of our students. To become the next Chancellor is the culmination of my life’s work.
I want to thank Mayor Adams for this opportunity and Chancellor Banks for his immense contributions to our school system. The initiatives we’ve launched—from NYC Reads to our reimagined Student Pathways—have been truly transformative, and I am eager to continue these programs. Please know that I am committed to stability and consistency in the day-to-day operation of our schools.
As an NYCPS parent myself, I will work my hardest to ensure our schools are safe and welcoming spaces for our children, that they set a high academic bar, and that they provide rich opportunities for learning and growth. I commit to advocating for each of our children just as I would for my own daughter. And I commit to listening to the wisdom of our families and ensuring we are doing our part as an agency to communicate clearly and often.
I’m excited to continue building bright starts and bold futures for the children of our city, and I look forward to all that we will achieve together. Thank you for choosing New York City Public Schools for your children.
In partnership,
Melissa Aviles-Ramos, Chancellor
