Hello SIS Families,

As we get closer to the start of the school year, I want to highlight a few important reminders and upcoming events.

Our 7th Grade Meet and Greet will be held next Thursday, August 27, from 1:00–3:00 p.m. This event is designed specifically for our incoming 7th-grade students to become more familiar with SIS, connect with classmates and staff, and prepare for the start of the school year. Please note that this is a student-only event, and parents/guardians will not be permitted in the building. Additional details about the Meet and Greet are included below.

Student schedules are now available to view in Infinite Campus. We encourage families to review schedules prior to the start of the school year. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your student’s schedule, please contact our school counselor, Julie Wells.

Our SIS Parent/Guardian Orientation will be held on Thursday, September 17, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. This event is specifically geared toward parents and guardians, and we look forward to welcoming you to SIS and sharing more about the year ahead.

In closing, as a follow-up to the information shared last week regarding the district’s Personal Communication Devices (PCD) Policy and the SIS Cell Phone/Wearable Technology expectations, we are asking all families to complete this brief Google Form by September 1 indicating whether their child will bring a cell phone and/or wearable technology, such as a smartwatch, to school.

We are looking forward to welcoming our Greyhounds back soon!

In partnership,

Tiara Rogers, SIS Principal

7th Grade Meet and Greet Thursday, August 27

7th Grade students can make a preview visit to SIS during the optional Student Meet and Greet on Thursday, August 27. Students should arrive at 1:00 to meet their Homeroom teacher, drop off supplies in their lockers, and then walk their schedule to practice finding classrooms. For students who have not been inside SIS before, this brief event offers a low-stress way to get a feel for the school routine prior to the first day of school. This letter includes the schedule we will follow.

7th graders who aren’t able to come in for this preview opportunity should rest assured that they will all receive a thorough orientation in the first days of school.

SIS School Picture Day - Volunteers Needed

New this year: we are asking for volunteers to keep the lines moving on picture day, between 8:00 and 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 2. Picture Day Volunteers will receive 2 complimentary Digital Deluxe packages! (Limit 3 volunteers per school.) Volunteers will hand each student a ticket. You will need to be scanned through the Raptor system in the SIS office in advance, as we do with all visitors/volunteers. If you are available that morning to help, please email Kathy at sisinfo@shorewood.k12.wi.us

Scholastic Reflections will photograph EVERY student on the morning of Wednesday, September 2. Please make sure your student attends school that day if possible. School pictures are extremely helpful for allowing staff to visually identify students and maintain seating charts. The school picture is used in our Yearbook, and every student receives a complimentary photo ID card. Ordering prints of school pictures is optional; you will receive instructions for online ordering once the photos are ready to view. Please note that you can order school portraits throughout the year, but after Retake Day a ship-to-home charge may be automatically added to the cost. There will be a Picture Retake Day on Tuesday, September 29.

Welcome From the SIS PTO!

The SIS PTO says welcome to a new school year! Please read this letter that explains how you can give a one-time donation to help support all the wonderful extras the PTO plans to provide for our staff and students this school year, as well as opportunities for you to lend a hand!

Please join us for our first meet on Wednesday, September 16 at 5:30 p.m. at Three Lions Pub. All are welcome! If you’d like to be involved in PTO planning and leadership, or just to help out when extra hands are needed, please send an email to sispto414@gmail.com

Student Schedules Are in Infinite Campus

Students and families should log into the Infinite Campus portal to see their students' schedules and homeroom assignments. Middle schoolers are often very eager to be in classes with friends or a particular teacher, but please remember that schedule changes will only be considered for extenuating circumstances. Student schedules are loaded to balance class sizes, demographic makeup, and other factors, so moving students around is not a simple process. If you discover that we made an error in your student's schedule, please email our School Counselor, Julie Wells (jwells@shorewood.k12.wi.us) for assistance.

SIS Yearbooks

Every year SIS creates the kind of Yearbook that most of you are probably familiar with from previous school years. At SIS, students who are interested in designing the Yearbook are encouraged to join the Yearbook Club. More information on that will be coming during the first weeks of school. Families can preorder a Yearbook by purchasing through Infinite Campus. (In the Fees tab, scroll down to click the Optional Payments button, and add “SIS Yearbook” to your cart.) The cost is $12, and Yearbooks will be distributed in June. Place your order anytime throughout the school year; we will send periodic emails to families who have not yet ordered a yearbook, to repeat these instructions.

If you would like to purchase a yearbook but are facing financial challenges, please email sisinfo@shorewood.k12.wi.us to request a yearbook free of charge. Thanks!

Sign Up for Cross Country

SIS Cross Country is popular with students in both grades. Practices will begin on September 1, and the season will be approximately 5 weeks long, with one-hour after-school practices daily, and weekly meets that offer everyone the opportunity to compete. To sign up for the season, please submit this SIS Cross Country Registration Form. If you have questions, please contact Coach Dan Simmons: dansmmns@gmail.com or 608-698-5302.

Students who participate for the Cross Country season will be charged a $50 Athletic fee, which may be waived for families who qualify for the Free or Reduced Price Meal program.

SIS Office Business

The Shorewood Intermediate School Office will be closed at various times August 24-28 to allow our staff to participate in District Back-to-School meetings. The office will generally be open between 8:00 and 3:30 most days, but we recommend that you call ahead (414-963-6950) if you need to take care of any business with us during that time. You can also email us your questions at sisinfo@shorewood.k12.wi.us.

Registration for School and School Fees

If you have not already completed the annual online registration and residency documentation, please do so as soon as possible. Here is the letter with Registration instructions. Your family’s Supplemental Materials fee(s) appear in Infinite Campus under Fees, and should be paid before September 1.*

If you qualified for the federal Free & Reduced Price Meals program last year, please be sure to check the box in your Registration to allow us to waive certain fees. Unless you automatically re-qualified under direct certification this summer (and received a letter), your status will expire in October. You must reapply each school year in order to keep that valuable benefit going.

*Around September 1, the SIS office will waive the fees of any family qualified for Free or Reduced meals who has also given permission to waive fees.it."

Certain course and participation fees may be added to your Infinite Campus account later. You will be sent regular notifications to remind you to pay your fee balances. If you are experiencing financial difficulty paying school fees, contact the SIS main office to find out what assistance may be available.

You can add on the following optional items and pay for them in one shot! At the bottom of your Infinite Campus “Fees” tab, click “Optional Payments” to find the list of items detailed below that you can add to your Cart and pay for.

  • SIS-Yearbook: $12.00

  • SIS-PTO Donation [in any amount]

  • Booster Club Donations [in any amount]: Athletics, Band, Choir, Drama, Orchestra

Fees for specific course materials, field trips, optional activities, and athletics will be communicated and assessed later in the school year.
