A message From Principal Hasberry-Signal & AP Dr. DeCaires-Vengersammy A message From Principal Hasberry-Signal & AP Dr. DeCaires-Vengersammy

Dear Families,

We appreciate your continued partnership and are excited to share important updates for the upcoming week.

  • Kindergarten & 5th Grade Activities – NEW DUE BY May 9th, 2025
    • The dues for 5th-grade activities are $50.00, and $30.00 for Kindergarten activities, which cover all end-of-the-year activities.
    • Please note: If a student is disinvited from any activity, families will receive a reimbursement for that specific event.
  • State Testing Reminder: Students have just excelled in the ELA test, and now we are approaching the math and science tests. Please ensure that students get a good night's sleep, arrive on time, and eat a healthy breakfast on testing days. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to your child's teacher.

    • Math Testing:

      • 4th Grade – May 6 & 7

      • 5th Grade – May 8 & 9

      • 3rd Grade – May 12 & 13

    • 5th Grade Science: May 14

  • For safety reasons, we kindly ask that students bring only plastic water bottles to school. Please leave metal water bottles at home.
  • Pick-Up During Lunch Time: Please note that pick-up during lunchtime is not recommended, as students are often outside, transitioning between activities or having lunch. If you need to pick up your child early, please be mindful of our lunch period times: 11:42 AM and 12:38 PM.

Important Reminders for Families:

  • Parent Concerns: If you have a concern, please reach out to your child’s classroom teacher first. If your concern is still not addressed or a solution was not met, please fill out the Parent Concern Form so we can further support you. Your partnership and support are greatly appreciated!
  • Student Illness: Please remember that children who are sick should stay at home. If your child will be absent, inform your child’s teacher via email and CC the main office. We are working to ensure we have the correct and updated parent contact information.
  • Late Pickups & Program Participation: Please note that due to many parents arriving extremely late to pick up their students at the end of the day, those who have had a direct conversation with the principal have been informed that they will not be allowed to continue in the program. This policy still stands, as we want to respect everyone’s time and value their participation. However, if we continue to have parents showing up excessively late after school, we will have to cancel all activities. There will be no exceptions to these rules.

Thank you for your continued support in making our school a welcoming and inspiring place for all students.

Warm regards,
Principal Hasberry-Signal & AP Dr. DeCaires-Vengersammy

Assessment Calendar Assessment Calendar

Dear Ellington Magnet Families,

Our middle of the year assessments have begun. These assessments are crucial in evaluating the progress and understanding of our students, and they help us tailor our teaching methods to better support each child's learning journey.

Attached, you will find the schedule for the assessments.

Instructional Updates Instructional Updates

We are alternating between A-Days, which will focus on Math and Science, and B-Days, which will focus on English Language Arts and Social Studies. This change is based on teacher feedback and aims to provide more time during the day to concentrate on just two subject areas instead of covering all subjects at once. This allows teachers to deliver more than one lesson within a subject or to extend a concept over time. The expectation remains the same: you are still required to have a lesson plan for each subject, including components of the instructional focus.
