Letter from the President, Daniel Burt
Dear NAKHE Colleagues,
We live and work in an era of unrivaled information flow. The sheer volume of data available to our students, and to all of us really, can feel overwhelming. Alongside the abundance of reliable research and discovery, misinformation continues to spread rapidly and often unchecked. Adding to this complexity is artificial intelligence being adopted across nearly every industry, consistently reshaping the ways in which information is produced, shared, and consumed.
In such a landscape, the work of faculty becomes more vital than ever. Our responsibility is not only to deliver content but to cultivate the ability to question, analyze, and evaluate information critically. Technology will advance, industries will adapt, and entire fields may leap forward with AI-driven tools, yet without the capacity for discernment, without the intellectual habit of asking “Is this accurate? Is this credible? What are the implications?”, our students risk becoming passive consumers of information rather than engaged thinkers.
This is where our disciplines shine. Whether through kinesiology, health, physical education, exercise science, or sport management, we do not simply teach facts, we model inquiry. We guide students to make evidence-based judgments. We show them how to recognize nuance, weigh competing perspectives, and build arguments with integrity. These are the very skills that will anchor them in an age of extreme technological acceleration and constant noise.
I encourage you to remain intentional in this mission. Let us remind our institutions and our students alike that critical thinking is not a luxury, it is a necessity. It is what ensures that higher education continues to produce not only graduates prepared for the workforce, but humans equipped to navigate complexity with wisdom and care.
Thank you for carrying this responsibility with diligence and dedication to future generations.
Together in strength, scholarship, and service,
Daniel
A word from the current NAKHE Vice President about Conference Proposals
Hello NAKHE Colleagues,
At this point you should have received communication about your conference proposal acceptance status. In the letter, please note the type of session (session or poster session) and the length of your session (20 or 45 minutes). Though we tried to award all successful proposal with their desired session length, due to the volume of proposals, that wasn't always possible. If you have any questions about your letter or session assignment, please let me know.
Lindsey Nanney
Vice President
