Together We Rise: Updates from the Principal
10/20/2025
A Message from Dr. Delgado:
What an incredible week we had celebrating Homecoming at Westview Middle School! It was wonderful to see so many of our Wildcats enjoying the festivities—girls proudly wearing their mums, boys sharing mums or wearing garters of their own, and everyone showing their school spirit with pride. The energy across campus was contagious, and it served as a refreshing reminder of the joy that comes from being part of such a vibrant and united school community.
As we shift back into our academic focus, we have another exciting opportunity ahead. On October 22nd, our students will engage in a full day of learning in a new and dynamic way. Students will be grouped differently for the day and will participate in a variety of academic activities and assessments. It will be a full and busy day of hard work—but as always, we will find ways to make it engaging and fun. By the end of the day, we may all be tired, but it will be the good kind of tired—the kind that comes from knowing we’ve given our best and accomplished something meaningful together.
October is a busy month for all of us, but busy is good! We’ll wrap up this month with our Harvest Festival on October 28th at 5:00 p.m., followed by Red Ribbon Week and a Halloween costume day on October 31st, when we’ll also celebrate our students during our First Nine Weeks Awards Ceremony and enjoy an early release.
I’m so proud of the important and meaningful work we’ve accomplished during these first few months of the school year. I look forward with eager anticipation to the incredible things we’ll continue to achieve together.
Rise Together, Wildcats!
Introducing Our New PBIS Points System!
At Westview Middle School, we believe in celebrating the positive choices our students make every day. We are excited to announce the launch of our new PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) Points System, which will begin this Tuesday!
Our PBIS system is designed to encourage and reward students for demonstrating positive behaviors across all areas of campus—classrooms, hallways, the cafeteria, and dismissal areas.
Students can earn points for actions such as:
-
Engaging in academic work for at least 90% of class time (10 points)
-
Turning in all assigned work (10 points)
-
Arriving to class on time (8 points)
-
Wearing their student ID (8 points)
-
Walking safely and respectfully in the hallways (8 points)
-
Demonstrating perfect attendance for six weeks (500 points)
Demonstrating perfect attendance for three weeks (200 points)
A complete list of behaviors and their corresponding point values can be found in the Wildcat PBIS Points Matrix linked below.
Every student will not receive points for every behavior, but points will be distributed equitably so that all students have an equal opportunity to earn rewards. Any adult on campus can recognize a student by scanning their ID badge and awarding points instantly for demonstrating one of our identified positive behaviors.
Students will collect their points in an online system that works like a digital “bank account.” As they earn points, they can choose to spend them in the Wildcat Marketplace—a reward store featuring both small prizes and high-point items students may want to save for. A document outlining these reward options is linked below.
Please note that while this is a positive rewards system—students can never lose points—they are still responsible for their actions under the Student Code of Conduct, and negative behaviors will be addressed separately.
Encouraging positive behavior is key to building a strong and supportive school culture, and we are thrilled to bring this system to life at Westview. We can’t wait to see our Wildcats earning, saving, and celebrating their success!

Westview Middle School Turnaround Plan Update
🏫 Turnaround Plan Update: Together, We Rise!
We are proud to share that Westview Middle School’s Turnaround Plan was officially approved by the Pflugerville ISD School Board at their meeting on October 16th. This is an important milestone in our ongoing commitment to improving academic outcomes for all Wildcats.
Our next step will be to present our plan to the Texas Education Agency (TEA) before the November 14th deadline. Once submitted, the TEA will review and analyze our plan, provide feedback, and issue a final decision by January 16, 2026.
In the meantime, we are already hard at work implementing the strategies outlined in our plan. Our focus is on creating a rigorous and supportive learning environment that leads to stronger student outcomes. We are confident that through the dedication of our staff, students, and families, Westview is on track to achieve at least a “C” rating this year—a reflection of the progress and hard work happening every day on our campus.
Together, we will continue to Rise Together and ensure that every Wildcat has the opportunity to succeed!
Coming Up This Week - Wildcat Harvest Festival!
We’re so excited to invite all of our Westview families to our Wildcat Harvest Festival on Tuesday, October 28th from 5:00–6:30 p.m. right here at Westview Middle School!

We encourage everyone to come dressed in your favorite Halloween costume and join in the festive fun! Whether you’re here for the treats, the games, or the chance to mingle with neighbors and friends, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.
Events like this remind us what makes Westview truly special — our spirit of community, service, and togetherness. We can’t wait to celebrate with you at the Wildcat Harvest Festival!

Parent Action Required: New Consent Forms for Student Health & Counseling Services
Texas Senate Bill 12, passed by the 89th Legislature and signed into law in June 2025, now requires parents to provide written consent for students to receive health and counseling services in schools.
This law mandates:
-
Annual consent forms for routine health, social, and mental wellness services.
-
Clarification on when additional consent or opt-out is required for other health-related services.
👉 Important: At this time, all consent forms must be completed online in Skyward. On Friday, all parents should have received both an email and a text with directions for completing this process.
Please note:
-
Students will not be able to see the school counselor or nurse without this consent in place.
-
It is imperative that all parents complete this form online as quickly as possible so that students do not experience an interruption in receiving care.
We also recognize that this process may be easier for some families than others. To support you, we will be offering:
Staff will be available to help families complete these forms onsite so that every student has access to the health and counseling services they need.
Thank you for your partnership in making sure our Wildcats are cared for both academically and personally.
📱 Cell Phone Reminder
At Westview Middle School, our goal is to maintain a focused, respectful, and distraction-free learning environment for all students. As a reminder, cell phones are not allowed to be seen or used during the school day. This includes hallways, classrooms, and common areas.
To support consistency across the district, we will be following the PfISD Cell Phone Consequence Ladder for any violations:
OffenseConsequence 1st OffenseDevice confiscated — must be picked up by a parent or guardian. 2nd OffenseDevice confiscated and lunch detention assigned (documented in Skyward). 3rd OffenseDevice confiscated, ½ day of ISS, and a parent meeting required. Chronic IssuesMay result in a full day of ISS, a behavior plan, or a temporary ban on bringing the device to school.
We appreciate your partnership in reinforcing this expectation at home. When students are free from distractions, they can better focus, engage, and succeed in their learning.
💜 Go Wildcats — focused and ready to learn!

Safety Protocols
🎟️ Student ID Badges
A reminder that all students are required to wear their ID badge every day while on campus. This important safety measure helps us ensure that everyone in the building belongs here and allows us to keep all students safe at all times.
We ask for your support in reminding your child not to leave the house without their ID badge each morning. If a student has lost their badge, they should report to the office to request a replacement. Please note that replacement ID badges cost $5.00. Please use the link below to pre-pay for a replacement ID badge.
Thank you for helping us keep Westview a safe and secure place for learning!
Restroom Use During Class Time
We ask for your support in helping students value their instructional time. Restroom breaks during class should be limited to emergencies only. Each student is allotted six restroom passes per six weeks for use during class time. Students were issued a new restroom pass through their social studies classes on Monday, September 22, 2025.
As a reminder, we have increased our passing periods to four minutes to give students more time to use the restroom between classes. Students may also use the restroom during lunch, before school, and after school.
Please encourage your student to make the most of their class time by avoiding unnecessary restroom trips during instructional periods.
Community Eligibility Provision Form (CEP)
Everyone Must Complete a CEP Form - Deadline is October 31st!!
All families are asked to complete a CEP form for this school year. This process is vital to ensuring that our school receives the funding and resources needed to best serve our students.
If you have not yet submitted your form—or if you’re unsure whether you have—please print the form linked below, complete it and return it to the school. You may also take a picture of the completed form and email it to us at Amanda.Vela@PfISD.net.
Thank you for helping us support Westview with the resources our students deserve!
No Food Deliveries from Restaurant Food
As a reminder, restaurant food deliveries are not allowed during the school day. If you would like your child to enjoy a meal from a restaurant, you are welcome to:
-
Sign your student out and enjoy lunch with them off campus, or
-
Join them at our picnic tables in front of the school.
After lunch, students can be signed back in to continue their school day.
Parents are always welcome to bring homemade lunches for their students. Thank you for your support in helping us maintain a safe and structured learning environment!
Check Your Student's Grades
📚 Grade Check Reminder
The end of the grading period is October 16th. The grades reported on this report card will determine UIL eligibility for students participating in extracurricular activities.
Please take time this week to check your child’s grades in Skyward. If your child is failing any classes, they will not be able to participate in extracurricular activities until they regain eligibility.
If you need any assistance accessing your child’s grades or attendance in Skyward, please call our main office at (512) 594-2200—we are happy to help!

Attendance Matters
Help your child perform at their highest level this year! 🏫✨
- Our Year to Date Attendance is 93.73%.
- 6th Grade = 94.74%
- 7th Grade = 93.22%
- 8th Grade = 93.11%
- Try to schedule doctor and dentist appointments after school or in the afternoon so your child can be counted present.
- Every school day matters—just a few missed days can add up quickly.
Thank you for partnering with us to make every day count for your child’s success! 💙
🎉 Attendance Challenge: Dance Party Reward!
Our Wildcats had a blast during the Hispanic Heritage Month lunch dance parties, and we’re keeping that fun energy going! Starting this week, we’ll be launching an Attendance Competition between grade levels!
Each week, we’ll track which grade level has the highest overall attendance rate. The winning grade level will earn a Dance Party during lunch — complete with music, celebration, and Wildcat pride!
Regular attendance is one of the biggest keys to success in school. Every day matters, and every student counts! Encourage your student to be on time and ready to learn each morning so their grade can take home the win. We will track attendance through 10/31 and the winning grade level will have their lunch dance party on November 3rd.
💜 Let’s go Wildcats — may the best grade level dance it out!
Tardy Consequences
⏰ Tardy Update: Way to Go, Wildcats!
We’re proud to share that our students have been doing a much better job getting to class on time! Thank you to all of our families for supporting this effort — your partnership makes a big difference. When students arrive to class promptly, they are more engaged, prepared, and ready to learn from bell to bell.
While we’re celebrating this progress, please remember that we are still issuing consequences for excessive tardies according to our campus Tardy Consequence Ladder:

Thank you for continuing to encourage your student to be on time every day. Every minute in class counts toward their success!
💜 Let’s keep up the great work, Wildcats!
🎯 Wildcat Intervention Day – October 22nd
This Tuesday, October 22nd, Westview Middle School will host our first Wildcat Intervention Day—a day designed to strengthen every student’s academic skills through targeted learning experiences.
On this day, students will be assigned to a specific group to spend the day with. Their starting class will be different from their usual first-period class, so it’s important that students look for their names posted on signs in the hallways when they arrive to find their assigned location.
Here’s what to expect for each grade level:
-
6th & 7th Grade: Students will begin the day with either an intervention or a brief assessment, followed by additional academic activities throughout the day.
-
8th Grade: Students will spend the day in an assigned group, taking the PSAT in the morning and participating in intervention sessions in the afternoon.
All students will eat lunch in their classrooms and will transition between activities as a group.
This special day provides an opportunity for our Wildcats to engage in meaningful learning experiences tailored to their needs—all while working together in a fun and supportive environment. We can’t wait to see the hard work and excitement our students bring to the day!
Go Wildcats—Rise Together!
Attention 8th Grade Parents: PSAT on October 22nd
All 8th grade students at Westview Middle School will take the PSAT on October 22, 2025. This is a valuable opportunity for students to get their first exposure to a college-entrance exam, and to begin building readiness for high school and beyond.
Why the PSAT Matters for 8th Graders
According to the College Board’s PSAT 8/9 resources:
-
The PSAT 8/9 assesses reading, writing, and math skills appropriate for 8th and 9th graders. It measures the kinds of critical thinking and problem solving students are already working to build in class. BigFuture
-
It helps establish a baseline of college and career readiness. Knowing where one stands in these academic areas early allows students, parents, and teachers to see strengths and areas to improve. k12.collegeboard.org+1
-
The results also help inform instruction — meaning teachers can use the score data to support students in specific skills where they might need extra help. k12.collegeboard.org+1
-
It builds familiarity with the format of standardized tests. Taking the PSAT in 8th grade introduces students to test features like time limits, question types, test structure, which can reduce anxiety in later tests. Online SAT / ACT Prep Blog+1
What This Means for Our Students
-
No stakes, just growth: The PSAT in 8th grade is not used for college admission or scholarship qualification. Its purpose is to inform and guide.
-
Feedback for improvement: Students will receive score reports showing what they did well and what they can work on. This feedback can help guide study, help from teachers, or use of prep resources.
-
Getting a head start: Families and students can use this early feedback to plan courses, set learning goals, and become comfortable with assessment formats.
We encourage all parents and students to view this PSAT exam as a tool for growth. Help your child get enough rest, eat well, and come ready to do their best. If you have questions about how to interpret PSAT results or how to support your student, feel free to reach out to our counseling department.
