How to build healing relationships
- Maintain a posture of curiosity and chase the WHY of any behaviors you see. Withhold judgment until you can dig in and learn more of the story.
- Create safe physical and emotional spaces through consistency, routines, and personal emotional regulation.
- Provide frequent opportunities to meet physiological needs (water, snacks, movement) and increase self-awareness of bodily needs by modeling care and prioritization of your own needs.
- Model and facilitate self-reflection and self-awareness through daily check ins, class meetings, and thoughtful discussions.
- Provide opportunities for power and control through choice and active listening.
- Support difficult transitions through clear communication of expectations and procedures.
- Allow for extra time to process and think - especially during moments of dysregulation.
- Facilitate relational repair through calm, patient restorative dialogue and model the use of I-Statements and conflict resolution strategies.
