Ruby Young Talented and Gifted Academy
Algebra 1, 8th Grade Math, Choir Teacher
LaToya Williams, a 20-year classroom leader, has spent the past four years making a significant impact at Ruby Young Talented & Gifted Academy in DeSoto ISD. Williams teaches Algebra 1, 8th-grade Math, and Choir, using her expertise to help students not only succeed academically but also develop into compassionate and capable individuals.
What Williams loves most about teaching is the opportunity to ignite curiosity and build confidence in her students, no matter their starting point. She finds inspiration in the daily growth she witnesses from her students—academically, emotionally, and socially. Teaching allows her to create a safe, nurturing environment where students feel valued, seen, and heard, and it is through these meaningful relationships that Williams believes true learning and growth happen.
Her passion for teaching is deeply rooted in the connections she builds with her students and their families. Williams’ experience with mentoring young people and providing them with a sense of belonging and trust has been central to her approach.
One of her most memorable teacher moments came outside the classroom, where her support for a group of young men, initially labeled as "troublemakers," led to lasting relationships and, years later, their High School State Football Championship victory. This experience solidified her belief that meaningful relationships are the foundation for academic and personal success.
To ensure her students reach their highest potential, Williams implements differentiated instruction that meets individual learning needs, while fostering a growth mindset. She strives to create a supportive and empowering environment where students feel inspired to push themselves beyond their limits.
Although she is honored to have been recognized as the 2025 Ruby Young Talented and Gifted Academy Campus Teacher of the Year, Williams measures her success through the growth and accomplishments of her students. This recognition reaffirms her purpose and fuels her passion for teaching, reminding her of the importance of the work she does every day.
Williams is committed to leading with heart, pouring her energy into her students and campus community, and continuing to inspire the next generation of leaders.
