Visitor/Volunteer Parking on campus
When you come to SLHS to volunteer, please make sure that you park in a visitor/volunteer parking spot. All numbered spots are for students and staff. If you park in a numbered spot or a blank spot, you are at risk of getting your car booted. The blank spots are general parking and paid student parking.
Visitor spots are located in front of the main entrance and in the 9th grade center. Volunteer spots are located in front of the PAC.
If there are no visitor spots available, please ask for help at the front desk.

October 7th Freshman Academy- Parent Notice
Important Information for Freshman Parents Regarding Freshmen Academy on October 7th
On Wednesday October 7th, the 9th grade students will participate in Freshmen Academy while our sophomores and juniors take the PSAT. We will be on an altered bell schedule all day. Please do not plan to deliver lunch on this day. 9th grade students will have a different lunch schedule, and some will eat in the Main Commons. If you must pick up your 9th grade student prior to 1:30pm, you need to send a note with your student that morning and instruct them to stop at attendance BEFORE going to their homeroom so they can be given a pass to quietly leave the program. We cannot interrupt the programs and make a general announcement for a student to go to attendance. The student will need to make the teacher aware of their early departure and watch the time, so they leave at the designated time on their pass.
There will be three presentations that follow a brief homeroom. (Homeroom assignments will be sent out in Remind and posted in the 9th grade center on Tuesday, October 6th.)
Program 1. LSSP/Counselor Presentation
Program 2. Class Officer Elections
Program 3. Effort, Education, Excellence Program by Keith Davis
LSSP/Social Worker Presentation
"If I Knew Then, What I Know Now"
SLHS Seniors shared some of the tips and tricks they learned from their Freshman to Senior years about navigating classes, friendships, stress, and preparation for the future with our mental health support team. SLHS School Psychologists and Social Worker share the class of 2027’s advice with the class of 2030.
Class Officer Elections/ “Flashing Lights”
Candidate speeches will be aired during this program. Students will also be given the opportunity to electronically vote with their Chromebooks.
Students will complete “Flashing Lights” on Canvas. This is a required activity for graduation.
Keith Davis - “EFFORT, EDUCATION, EXCELLENCE!!”
The program is exciting, interactive, humorous, content rich, informative, motivating, and challenging. The students have really enjoyed Keith Davis in past presentations.
The program will include a message about:
Right Choices /Right Voices
Wrong Choices/Wrong Voices
Peer Pressure
9th Graders-On TRACK to Success
Dreams/Goal setting
Effort /Education /Excellence
Respect/Responsibility/Rules
Dangers of Vaping
If you do not want your student to attend the Keith Davis presentation, an email request to opt out from the parent must be received by the 9th grade AP by 3:00pm on Friday, October 2, 2026. Please email Shelley Palermo at ShelleyAPalermo@KatyISD.org if you do not want your student to attend the presentation. A study hall will be held for students not attending. They are expected to bring schoolwork, or a book to read.

Come experience Washington D.C.! An outstanding experience for Juniors and Seniors!
If you are wondering what Close Up is, it is much more than a field trip – it’s an unforgettable 6-day study visit to the nation’s capital. Volunteer Registration
Katy ISD is grateful for the thousands of volunteers who make a difference in our schools each year. To help maintain a safe and secure environment for our students and staff, all volunteers serving on or off campus during or outside the instructional day are required to register annually through the district's Raptor volunteer management system.
A valid government-issued photo ID and email address are required to complete registration.
Your information will remain confidential and will not be shared outside of the volunteer program, except for applicants who register as a Community Volunteer (not a parent, grandparent, or guardian of a current Katy ISD student) or as a KEYS Mentor. For these volunteer roles, the information required to complete a background check will be shared only with our authorized background screening provider, JDP.
Once registered and approved, volunteers can:
• Sign up as a campus volunteer by completing the volunteer recruitment form provided by their campus organization(s) or by contacting the campus volunteer coordinator.
• Track volunteer hours through their volunteer profile for every Katy ISD campus where they serve.
• Quickly and easily submit individual off-campus volunteer hours.
