The Weekly Update #4
September 9th, 2025
Dear South Brunswick Community,
I am truly honored to serve as your Interim Superintendent
and to welcome you back to a new school year.
Our theme this year is:
“Rooted in Resilience, Rising with Purpose.”
This speaks to who we are. It honors the strength of those who came before us and the commitment we continue to show every day. Even in tough times, South Brunswick comes together, finds solutions, and stays focused on what matters most our students.
We are a community that shows up, supports one another, and never loses sight of excellence.
As we begin this new year, let’s keep growing together with resilience in our roots and purpose in our hearts.

HOMEWORK FREE DAYS FOR THE 2025-2026 SCHOOL YEAR
South Brunswick has consistently implemented 'homework-free' nights throughout the year to provide students with a well-deserved respite from academic demands. These nights are designed to alleviate the pressure of homework and assignments, allowing students to pursue personal interests, spend quality time with loved ones, and engage in extracurricular activities. While meaningful homework assignments can be valuable for reinforcing learning and fostering critical thinking, we recognize the importance of balancing academic responsibilities with personal time and relaxation.

SBHS CONCERT CHOIR Earns Prestigious
Carnegie Hall Invitation for March 2026 Performance
The South Brunswick High School (SBHS) Concert Choir, under the direction of Mr. Aldo Aranzulla, has been invited to perform in the Octavo Festival Chorus at the world-renowned Carnegie Hall in New York City on March 9, 2026.
The Concert Choir will join select ensembles from across the country under the baton of Dr. John Wilson, Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities at SUNY New Paltz. A highly respected conductor and professor, Dr. Wilson is recognized nationally for his artistry and leadership in advancing choral music. That he personally recommended the SBHS Concert Choir for this performance is a distinction that reflects the exceptional caliber of the ensemble and its director.
“This invitation to Carnegie Hall is not only an incredible honor for our students, but also a celebration of the music education tradition in South Brunswick,” said Robert Sears, K–12 Supervisor of Music. “Our students’ dedication and artistry, combined with the commitment of our teachers across all grade levels, make once-in-a-lifetime opportunities like this possible.”
Carnegie Hall, long considered one of the most prestigious venues in the world, hosts only a select number of ensembles each year. Participation in the Octavo Festival Chorus is extended only to choirs that demonstrate exceptional musicianship and professionalism, making this invitation both rare and significant.
South Brunswick Public Schools has consistently been recognized as a Best Community for Music Education by the NAMM Foundation, underscoring the district’s commitment to high-quality music instruction. In South Brunswick, a student’s musical journey begins in kindergarten, where general music classes spark creativity, musical literacy, and a love for the arts. By 3rd grade, students have their first opportunity to join a choir, beginning a progression of experiences that extends through middle and high school. Together, these milestones form a comprehensive K-12 music program, one that develops artistry, confidence, and community, and prepares students for extraordinary opportunities like this invitation to Carnegie Hall.
South Brunswick Public Schools is proud to support the SBHS Concert Choir as they prepare for this milestone performance.
