Author Bob McKinnon Visits the Mary C. Burke Complex

Grade 2 students at the Mary C. Burke Complex attended a presentation with New York Times best-selling author Bob McKinnon. Bob grew up in Chelsea and wanted to visit our schools to read his newest book to students!

To prepare for Bob’s visit, second grade classes read and discussed Bob’s book America’s Dreaming in library visits with Mrs. Hubert. Students were very excited to hear the new sequel, America Gives Thanks! After reading the book, Bob answered many questions from students about books and writing! Bob also brought a “Welcome Wagon” of books to donate to the MCB Complex Library.

Digital & Communication Skill Building

First graders and second graders continued practicing using digital skills on Seesaw. We learned about the Undo tool and ways it can help us when we make a mistake. Students were challenged to color a butterfly using only 2 tools: the pen and undo tools.

Third graders learned about the importance of usernames and passwords and the difference between a weak and strong password. We practiced classifying passwords as safe and not safe.

Fourth graders learned about ways online communication differs from face-to-face communication and how it leads to misunderstanding. Here are some text messages that students created with a scenario where a friend didn't make the team they tried out for.

CHS Family Night

Last Night's Family Night had such great ENERGY. To quote an Educator. "I wanted to say that I really thought last night was one of the best family nights I've ever attended." maybe 2...:) "Family Night remains one of my favorite things about being a CHS educator and so much of that is thanks to all the work you do for our community. CHS Community is truly a Village. Special "THANKS" to our CHS volunteers. We had close to 60. The night was not over and many were requesting when is the next one. That is priceless. They are simply "AMAZING"
