Fall Reminders from Mrs. Schumacher

Dear Hough Families,

This is one of the most exciting days of the year in an elementary school and Hough is no exception! We have such a fun day planned and appreciate all of the planning of the PTO parents that have been busy getting party plans together this afternoon! In addition to the excitement of Halloween, I am also excited to share that the hard work of Hough staff and students has been highlighted in the most recent article of US News and World Report. Hough School has ranked #19 out of all public elementary schools. Please check out these two article that celebrate our amazing school!

US News and World Report

Daily Herald

Also, we have received our Annual Summative Designation for Hough. Our ranking is Commendable, which also speaks to the growth and progress our students have made. Thank you for your continued to partnership to make our school experience so successful for our students.

Halloween Schedule-

  • 12:15 Parade (K-5th) - West on Lincoln, North on Dundee, East on Lake
  • 12:45 PTO Sponsored Storyteller Assembly
  • 1:25 Classroom Parties
  • 2:40 Regular Dismissal

Costumes- Costumes should be easy for the student to change into by themselves with minimal adult assistance. Students are encouraged to wear as much of their costume to school as possible. Each teacher will work with their class to find an appropriate time when students may “change”/ add final costume details (wings, crown, etc.). Costumes should be elementary-age appropriate (no gore, no weapons, etc.). If make-up is part of the costume, this must be applied at home, prior to school.

Playground Opens at 7:40am- We would like to inform you that the playground gate will open each morning at 7:40 a.m. Please note that there will be no teacher supervision before this time.

For the safety of all students, we kindly ask that children do not arrive before 7:40 a.m., as staff will not be available to provide supervision prior to the gate opening.Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in helping us ensure a safe and smooth start to each school day.

Morning Traffic- As we continue to refine our drop-off and pick-up procedures, please remember that students should be getting in and out of cars on the playground side of Lincoln. Visibility can be limited for those crossing the street since there are parked cars , so entering and exiting family vehicles from the sidewalk closest to the school in the drop-off/pick-up lane is the best way to keep our students safe. Since the weather has gotten colder and more staff are driving and parking, there may be not be parking spaces to pull into. Also, Salem Church lot is for parishioners and preschool traffic, so please do not park in the lot.

Cold Weather- As the weather is getting wet and colder, I wanted to send out a friendly reminder that students need to come to school properly dressed for the weather including a cold weather jacket, hat, gloves, snow pants and boots, if appropriate. It is highly recommended to send in an extra set of pants/sweats and socks, as many students are coming in from recess with wet clothes. Please feel free to review this temperature chart that the district uses when making the determination for outdoor recess. Thank you so much for your assistance.

Halloween Party- A huge thank you to our amazing Room Parent Leads and volunteers who are helping make today’s Halloween celebrations so special! Your time, creativity, and support bring so much joy to our students, and we truly appreciate all you do to make these events fun, inclusive, and memorable. If you’d like to be considered for the next classroom party, please reach out to your Room Parent Lead to be added to the volunteer list. We love welcoming new parents to join in on the fun!

Hough Fundraiser- Save the date for this year’s Hough Fundraiser (aka parents’ night out). More info to come on how to help make it the most rockin’ Fundraiser yet!

POP (Packs of Plenty) Packing- While the daily school lunch program feeds children during the school week, weekends are not covered. Our important P.O.P. (Packs of Plenty) program provides a pack full of nutritious food for children to consume over the weekend. Each week 20-30 volunteers sort, package and create 700 packs of food for the more than 700 children who participate in the program. All packing takes place at Sunny Hill Elementary School 2500 Helm Rd Carpentersville. Packing lasts anywhere from 30-45 minutes. Once all bags are packed, they will need to be driven. Barrington Giving Day- (Fliers Below) Barrington Giving Day is working closely with Barrington 220 to help support the Winter Event coming up at Station Middle School on December 6th. We have a Barrington Giving Day Box here at Hough! Hough has chosen to collect Hats and Gloves this year and we will be collecting items from 10/13-11/21 right inside the front doors of school. We need help from parents to sort winter clothing, shoes, toys, etc. in preparation for this event. All of the preparation for this event takes place at Barrington Giving Day’s Donation Center in the Arboretum of South Barrington. The Donation Center is open Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9-1PM. We really need volunteers anytime between 9-1PM on Wednesdays. Please use this link to sign-up BARRINGTON GIVING DAY VOLUNTEERS
