LHS UpdateOctober 10, 2018

Thank you, Custodians!

This month we celebrated Custodian Appreciation Day. One day is simply not enough to recognize the hard work and pride our LHS Custodians do! Recently, a guest speaker sent a letter to our Superintendent telling him what a fabulous job our custodians have done, and that they have never been in a cleaner building. This is TRUE! We have the cleanest building in the state, but we have more than that. Our custodians show up early in the winter to ensure our sidewalks are school ready, reroute the troops in circumstances of the inevitable QT daily spill, keep us safe by ensuring our doors are locked at appropriate times, disinfect and help prevent the spread of the dreaded cold, spend summer waxing and preparing for the next school year, and provide both the students and staff with dedicated role models. Thank you for everything you do. Students, my challenge to you in our quest for kindness is to PLEASE before you leave your tray on your table at lunch, drop a chip bag and continue walking, or leave a "masterpiece" with your leftover food, consider who is cleaning up after you. These men and women are our hardest workers, and we would love you to show your appreciation by cleaning up daily in the cafeteria and elsewhere. Thank you!

Get Involved!

  • DECA Food Drive: Jack Kavanaugh and Evan Sacks are completing a Community Service Project that is supporting Backpack Impact, a local charity that supplies students in the Wentzville School District with meals to take home each weekend. Want to help? Please bring food to donate from October 8-24 to your second-hour classroom.
  • First Impact: First Impact is a traffic safety program that educated parents about Missouri's Graduated Driver License (GDL) law. We will host a parent presentation on October 24 from 6-7:30. Register at 573-884-3463.
  • Holiday Bazaar: Come do your holiday shopping on November 10, from 9 am - 4 pm.
  • Come Together Club: We are currently adding new members to Come Together, a peer-to-peer support club started last year by Mrs. Rustemeyer, Mr. Eversole, Mrs. Wootten, and Mrs. Gerringer. We want to get a wide variety of students involved, including those who may not like to participate in traditional after-school clubs or activities. All interested students are invited to an Informational meeting this Thursday, 10/11, at 2:20 pm in Room 218. If unable to attend but still interested, we have a sign-up sheet in the guidance office. Come Together participants will choose whatever club activities they are interested in. Examples include: learning how to support distressed friends; educating peers about coping skills and healthy relationships; and creating a safe, welcoming meeting space for all students to hang out and share real-life challenges without feeling judged. We will provide training for club members about mental health, coping, and healthy relationship skills.
  • Harry Potter Interactive Movie Night: Calling all Muggles and wizards for an interactive movie night with a sorcerer, a stone, and the boy who lived. Join us on Thursday, October 25 for a night of fun!
  • TSA & HOSA Trunk or Treat: Join us on Saturday, October 27 from 5-8pm for yard games, raffles, contests, and of course TREATS!
  • Speech & Debate: See Mrs. Franke, room 206, if you're REMOTELY interested in speech and debate. It's not too late to join. We will be going to Fort Zumwalt South to watch a tournament on October 19 and 20 which will allow you to see the different events offered, and we are preparing for the first tournament that we'll compete at which is December 5 and 6 at Pattonville High School.
