November 2025
Veterans Day Tribute
On November 13, the fourth and fifth grade classes presented a musical program in honor of our veterans. The program was titled We Honor You: A Salute to America's Soldiers and Veterans. We were honored to have the Highlands Veterans Color Guard in attendance to formally present the colors as part of our program. In addition to the program, veterans in attendance received cards created by students in all grade levels. Greendale Elementary School wishes to thank all of our service men and women for their service to our country.
Thanksgiving Meal
On November 13, GES hosted a Thanksgiving meal for our GES families. Students were joined by family members during their lunch time. Our food service staff did an amazing job preparing a delicious Thanksgiving meal of turkey, green beans, mashed potatoes, stuffing, sweet potatoes, roll, and pumpkin pie.
Kindergarten Thanksgiving
Title I / VPI Fall Family Engagement Night
On Thursday, November 20, students and their families participated in the Title I / VPI Fall Family Engagement Night. Families enjoyed a meal and The Elves and the Shoemaker was read to all the children. The families split up and parents attended sessions where they were shown a demonstration of literacy techniques used in the classroom and were guided on how they could use those techniques at home to help with their child's learning. Children participated in crafting and creating their own original designs for shoes, connecting back to the story they were read. In addition, a representative from the Washington County Public Library was available to register individuals for library cards.
GES Spelling Bee
Our school spelling bee was held on November 21 in the GES forum. Twelve students from first grade to fifth grade represented their homerooms. Teresa Carter from WCYB was our guest emcee and called the words out for the students. Hasassah M was the spelling bee winner and Amelia B is the runner-up. Hadassah will now represent Greendale in the regional spelling bee.
Learning About Wildlife and Habitats
For our attendance celebration this month, 135 students who had perfect attendance for the month of October enjoyed a special assembly. Rangers from Hungry Mother State Park visited and shared their knowledge of local wildlife and habitats, even bringing samples to share such as bones, fur, and even a live snake. The highlight of the program was Colonel the Corn Snake.
