As this school year comes to a close, I’m filled with both joy and a touch of sadness. This will be my final newsletter to you as the principal of MREC. It’s truly bittersweet. I’m excited about the new journey ahead at Harry McKillop Elementary, but I will deeply miss the amazing families, students, and staff who have made MREC such a special place.

From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU for your support, your trust, and for sharing your incredible children with us. It has been an honor to watch them grow, learn, and thrive.

As we head into summer, I wish each of you a season filled with laughter, rest, and fun. Please continue to check the district website and your child’s home campus website for updates and information about the 2025–2026 school year.

Melissa ISD offices follow a modified schedule during the summer break from school. The standard summer office hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, with all offices closed on Fridays. Across the district, summer office hours take effect Monday, June 2, and normal office hours resume Monday, Aug. 4. View and download the Summer Hours Calendar.

The Academy After School Program is exploring the possibility of offering an engaging, activity-packed Summer Camp for kids entering Kindergarten through 6th grade for the 2025–2026 school year.

This camp is designed to keep kids active, learning, and having nonstop fun all summer long! Each week will feature exciting themes, hands-on activities, creative projects, and both onsite and offsite field trips that kids will love. Plus, it’s all in a safe, structured, and enriching environment you can feel great about.

Interested? We Need to Know!
To help us determine if there is enough interest to launch this program, please complete the Summer Camp Interest Form** by Wednesday, May 14**. A minimum number of students is required for the camp to move forward. Please complete a separate interest form for each child you wish to attend camp.

Get ready for a star-spangled celebration like no other! Join the City of Melissa on Friday, June 27 for Sparks & Spangles, their annual 4th of July event filled with food, kids’ activities, and a dazzling fireworks finale. Performance Course will be partnering with Melissa ISD again to host Strength and Conditioning Courses that will be taking place at Melissa High School soon! This program was developed by Performance Course to offer to 3rd-12th grade athletes the opportunity to develop both physically and mentally. The classes take place 4 days a week (M-Th) and will begin June 9th for all athletes. Registration is now open for our Summer 2025 Cardinal Camps! Melissa ISD is offering a variety of youth camps this summer in athletics, academics, and fine arts. To learn more and register your camper, visit www.melissaisd.org/camps.

Returning Student Enrollment for 2025-2026 will open July 16, 2025. Parents and guardians will receive an individual email alert with their student's snapcode to begin the registration process.
