MAP Growth Newsletter Information 2026-2027

MAP Growth is the ASD and State of Alaska required benchmark/interim reading and mathematics assessment for students in grades 3-9. Grades 10-12 students identified as needing Tier II and Tier III reading and mathematics support also take MAP Growth as part of the Anchorage School District's MTSS framework.

Alaska's Department of Education and Early Development (DEED) has partnered with NWEA to implement a creative approach to a balanced statewide assessment that connects fall and winter MAP Growth benchmark/interim assessments and the Alaska spring AK STAR summative assessment. AK STAR eliminates the spring benchmark/interim assessment window for grades 3-9 by combining the summative and benchmark assessment into one test that produces a spring benchmark score, which includes a growth measure. More information is available at the State of Alaska AK STAR website, education.alaska.gov/assessments/akstar.

MAP Growth is an online, adaptive assessment that provides each student a personalized testing experience with data that speaks to their individual progress and growth in mathematics and reading.

The MAP Growth reading and mathematics benchmark will be administered in person during the fall and winter benchmark windows. The spring benchmark will be embedded in the AK STAR summative assessment as outlined above.

  • Fall Benchmark 1: September 8 - September 18 (make-ups through September 25)

  • Winter Benchmark 2: November 30 - December 11 (make-ups through December 17)

  • Spring Benchmark 3: embedded in AK STAR administered during the summative assessment window: March 29 - April 9 (make-ups through April 30)

    • MAP Growth assessment only: Grades 10-12 identified as needing Tier II and III support

MAP Growth practice tests and tutorials allow students and families the opportunity to become familiar with the types of questions and tools available on the actual MAP Growth assessments such as the highlighter and calculator. An overview of these resources with links to the practice tests are compiled on the MAP Growth Practice Tests Quick Sheet.

ATTENDANCE MATTERS!! ATTENDANCE MATTERS!!

If your student accrues more than 8 absences, please review their Daily Attendance. Per district policy, students that have 15 or more Absences (Excused or Unexcused) may have credit withdrawn from their respective class.

If you receive an Unexcused Absence notification and you feel that this is inaccurate, please be sure to contact the Attendance Office (907) 742-3334. An Unexcused Absence is considered a Truancy; 5 or more may result in having credit withdrawn, or unenrollment from school.

Here at Chugiak High School, we take individual circumstances into consideration to ensure that we find the best fit for students. Please be sure to keep us in the loop!

TARDY POLICY TARDY POLICY

At CHS, we believe that punctuality is a virtue that prepares students for the workforce and post-graduation. To better uphold this belief, the changes below will help foster a more efficient learning environment.

Students will be allowed 4 cumulative tardies amongst all scheduled classes before a consequence is issued. Following the fifth tardy, the following progressive disciplinary actions will be put in place:

  • 5th tardy: 1 lunch detention
  • 9th tardy: 2 lunch detentions and Attendance Contract (signed by parents)
  • 12th tardy: Extended Day Detention - Thursday 3:15-5:15 (parent notification)
  • 15th tardy: Referral to Student Services Team and Parent Meeting
  • 16th tardy: Referral to Administrator and Parent Meeting to determine additional sanctions.

Tardy counts resets at the end of semester.

FINES AND FEES FINES AND FEES

Throughout the year fines and or fees may be attributed to a student if they have lost or damaged an item or received a parking ticket. We will send letters home twice during the year (just prior to Parent/Teacher conferences) for the entire student population to let parents know if their child has any fines or fees. Thank you for your prompt payments so that we can continue to support students in their education.
