Drop off and Pick up
The conversation around how to improve the drop off and pickup system while remaining focused on student and staff safety has been ongoing. We have observed how other schools of similar size operate. The district office staff have observed our process and we have stopped to take a closer look at our own process. After all of the time spent on the topic we made some changes based on suggestions from parents. The staff have identified some of the bumps in the plan but also pointed out how the process has become much smoother.
We will continue to use Pikmykid.
Parents have the option of going through the single drop off lane in the morning or walking in with their child.
In the afternoon parents can park in the parking lot, which the app does give you that option.
There is also the option of going through the two lines to have your child brought to your car.
When you are in the drop off lane, when we have people waiting to pull out we appreciate patience as you move through the process. Please wait the few minutes it takes until it is your turn to leave. If you are in a time crunch remember you can always part and on the app announce you are waiting in the parking lot.
We welcome anyone who would like to help with either the pickup or drop off traffic duty, we would appreciate the extra help any time.
When you park in the parking lot, please make sure your child is either walking across the parking lot with you or another adult. When you are at the crosswalk and there is a staff member there to walk across with your child, you can then leave your child there. The morning is really dark and we donโt want anyone to get hurt.
We appreciate your valuable input and continue to see the process getting better and better with your cooperation.
STAFF TRAINING
The teachers are well versed in instruction and sometimes it is nice to be the student. We recently attended the MTSS/RTI (Multiple-Tiered System of Supports/Response to Intervention) conference in Anchorage on January 25th & 26th. The conference focused on how to support struggling students in all subjects, what it is to be a learner and in my eyes it brought back the โwhyโ. โWhyโ we became educators. It was a time to network, learn new techniques and to build a stronger school community. I have to say, it was a lot of fun to spend time together!
Did you know? Teachers and administrators are required to complete 6 credit hours in order to renew their license. Practitioners commonly required to continue their education include lawyers, teachers, accountants, nurses, engineers, psychologists, and pharmacists.
Educators spend a fair amount of time continuing to learn and working towards being the best educator they can be. We discuss data, schedules, rules, student needs, and all the while making learning fun.
Fronteras Athletes are striving for Excellence!
Our athletes are working hard and learning not only athletic skills to work together but most importantly they are learning how to work as a team. The wrestling team attended a tournament at Teeland on Jan. 31st, and the volleyball team hosted a tournament at Fronteras. We are very proud of all of our athletes and look forward to the tournaments to come.

Fun fact about Sra. Perez
I did not begin to learn to speak Spanish until I was 24 years old. I came from a monolingual family in the Midwest with minimal opportunity to use or learn a second language. I became immersed in the language when I was married. The motivator for me, I wanted to be able to communicate with all of the family members in Mexico. I am proud to call myself bilingual. Am I perfect, no and I work each day to get just a little bit better. So if any of you parents are thinking about learning Spanish with your childrenโฆSi se puede!!

๐จ ALL ABOUT THAT ART ๐จ
Shelli Franckowiak, Fronteras Spanish Immersion Charter School art teacher, was selected from over 130 applicants state-wide to receive one of two $1500 scholarships from the Alaska Council for School Administrators to purchase needle felting supplies for her classroom.
Needle felting is an art process used to create felted objects by tangling and matting wool fibers together using a barbed needle. This process involves repeatedly poking a special needle into wool to compact and shape them into solid forms. The barbs on the needle catch the fibers and bind them together. Our Fronteras artists have already begun exploring this new medium.

Volunteer spotlight
We would like to take a moment to recognize Misty Adams for her unwavering dedication and incredible contributions to our school community. Misty has been a committed volunteer for many years, having had childrenโand now grandchildrenโgo through our K-8 program. Currently serving as our APC Board Chair, Misty has shown exceptional leadership in organizing and overseeing our Club's Choice fundraiser, ensuring its success year after year.
In addition to this, she also helps with the weekly Subway orders and provides support wherever itโs needed, always going above and beyond to help advance Fronteras' mission. Mistyโs ongoing support, hard work, and passion for our school are truly appreciated, and we are so fortunate to have her as part of our community. Thank you, Misty, for everything you do!
