It Takes a Team!

Current and former SHS students represented Sisseton at the Northeast Regional Basketball Tournament last Friday in Hamlin. The junior team played 3 on 3 and won all of their games. The senior unified team played 5 on 5 and lost in two very close games. Congrats and high fives to all the participants!

English Classes Host Artist-in-Residence

SHS was priviledged to host artist-in-residence Jean Patrick this past week. Ms. Patrick is a children's book author who resides near Mitchell, but spent the week with students in Ms. Prendergast's and Ms. Eclevia's English classes to help hone their writing skills.

While some classes spent the week working with different types of interesting poetry, other groups developed their own children's stories based on the classic story, The Mitten. The week culminated with students sharing their stories with their peers and receiving feedback from Ms. Patrick.

Outside PE in Februrary!

With the snow, ice, and chilly temperatures this week, it's hard to believe that the PE students could have been outside just a few days ago. Last week Mr. Karst and Mrs. Fisher took their students outdoors to enjoy some fresh air and sunshine along with their exercise and took advantage of the unseasonably warm weather.

Biology in the Real World

Biology class had a hands-on lab modeling the Natural Selection of antibiotic resistance. Using colored disks to represent different types of bacteria and a number cube (dice) to simulate taking medication, students observed how bacterial populations change over time.

Each roll of the dice determined whether the “antibiotic” was taken properly, allowing students to see how resistant bacteria can survive and multiply if medication is not taken as prescribed.

This engaging activity helped students understand the importance of completing a full course of antibiotics and connected classroom learning to a real-world health issue!
