Message from Principal Rogers
Hello SIS Families,
I hope this message finds you well! As we move further into October, I want to highlight a few important updates and share more about how we are supporting and recognizing our students at SIS.
First, Fall Family-Teacher Conferences are coming up next week. Conferences will be held in person on Tuesday, October 13, and virtually on Thursday, October 15, from 4:00–7:00 p.m. both evenings.
Our in-person conferences will follow an arena-style format, so no appointment is needed. Families are welcome to come at any point during the conference window and meet with teachers on a first-come, first-served basis. Virtual conferences on Thursday will be by appointment only, so please be sure to schedule your preferred conference time(s) in this sign-up sheet.
Family–Teacher Conferences are an important opportunity for us to connect and partner around your student’s learning; celebrating strengths, discussing progress, and identifying ways we can continue to support their growth. We hope to see you next week! As a reminder, there will be no school on Friday, October 16.
Social-Emotional Learning at SIS
Our Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) work is intentionally connected to our HOWL (Habits of Work & Learning) framework and PACK values: Perseverance, Accountability, Communication, and Kindness. After focusing on building connections in September, our first PACK focus is Perseverance — Keep going, even when it’s hard. Through weekly SEL lessons, discussions, and reflection, students will explore what perseverance looks like in their learning, relationships, and everyday experiences at SIS.
PACK Notes: Recognizing Our Students
We’re also recognizing students when we see them putting our PACK values into action! Through PACK Notes, staff provide students with personalized recognition for demonstrating Perseverance, Accountability, Communication, or Kindness. We have already recognized more than 50 students this year! If your student brings home a PACK Note, we encourage you to ask them about it and celebrate the positive choices and actions that earned their recognition.
As part of our continued focus on supporting students’ social-emotional well-being, students will complete the mySAEBRS Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) screener on Wednesday, October 14, during Flex Time. Please see the information below to learn more about the screener and how the information is used to support students at SIS.
As always, please take a moment to review the additional information below, and I hope you enjoy the rest of your week!
In Partnership,
Tiara Rogers, SIS Principal
SIS School News
SIS Boys Basketball is Coming Up!
The SIS Boys Basketball season begins on October 19. Please submit this sign-up form if your student is interested in participating. If you have questions, please email the Athletics department (Liberty Wieseman and Kaiya Trudeau) or call 414-963-6924.
Students who participate for the Boys Basketball season will be charged a $50 Athletic fee, which may be waived for families who qualify for the Free or Reduced Price Meal program.
mySAEBRS Screener
As we did last year, we are screening our students’ social-emotional skills using the Social, Academic, and Emotional Behavior Risk Screener (SAEBRS). This tool is a 20-item screener that students in grades 2-12 complete three times a year giving their own insight into their social, academic, and emotional behaviors. The first screening for SIS will take place during Flex time on Wednesday, October 14. Each screening will take students approximately 5-10 minutes to complete. Interested families can review the student questionnaire here.
This information, along with other data such as previous screener results, teacher input, grades, disciplinary and attendance data, will help our schools identify students who may be in need of academic, social-emotional, and/or behavioral support through our eMLSS system. Should we have concerns about your child and their progress in any area, we will reach out to you directly; however, if you have any questions or concerns about your child or their results, please reach out to the school counselor, school psychologist or principal in your child’s building. For specific questions related to the SAEBRS screener, please reach out to Kate Harder.
SIS School Picture Orders
Retake Day proofs were delivered to students in Homeroom on Tuesday.
If you wish to order portrait prints, visit the Scholastic Reflections website. Enter your email address and “your access code” (it’s your child's Student Number, which you can find in Infinite Campus, by asking your student to find it on the sticker in their binder, or by looking on the portrait proof). Please place your order before Monday, November 2, if you care to. Packages will be delivered to school and sent home via Homeroom teachers.
You will still be able to order pictures from November 3 through June 30, 2027, however they will be shipped to your home with an additional fee.
SIS Show Circle Talent Show: AUDITIONS
Auditions for SIS Show Circle, the annual SIS talent show will be held on October 30 and/or 31 (TBD). If your student wants to perform, they should start polishing their act! Please read these SIS Show Circle Guidelines and have your student sign up before October 11 for an audition slot on October 12 or 14.
SIS Mock Trial
The first SIS Mock Trial meeting will happen tomorrow (October 9) during Flex time. Interested students can take their lunch to the meeting in room 301.
Adult volunteers are still welcome to get involved! Whatever your experience with the law, we'd love to have you join us to explore the aspects of trial with an engaging group of seventh and eighth graders, culminating in a mock trial at the end of the year. Join us for as many or as few sessions as you are available. To volunteer or for more information, please contact Shorewood parent volunteers Tamar Kelber (kelber@gassturek.com) or Mike Lueder (mlueder@hansenreynolds.com).
Attention, 8th Grade Families
Save the Date: Shorewood High School's 9th grade orientation and course expo for current 8th grade students and their caregivers will be held at SHS on Thursday, November 19 at 6:00 p.m. More information will be coming soon.
SIS PTO News
Stocking the Staff Lounge
Let's show our wonderful SIS teachers and staff appreciation by keeping their staff lounge stocked with all their favorite snacks and drinks! SIS PTO started the oaSIS (a snack cart in the staff lounge and beverage drawer in the staff lounge fridge) three years ago. It's truly been a hit, and such an easy to way to let our staff know how much we appreciate them every day. Please use this sign up to donate what you can to create an oaSIS for our teachers. Note that you don’t have to drop off snacks/beverages on any specific day; the office staff will restock the cart or the fridge whenever there is something to put out. Thanks for your generosity!!
Conference Meals: Please Contribute
On Tuesday, October 13th and Thursday, October 15th, the PTO will be providing dinner to teachers and staff during Fall Conferences. The PTO will provide the main course. We need your help providing sides and beverages. Please review the sign up genius below for details on how you can help.
Sign up for dinner for Fall conferences
Thank you so much to those who have already donated to the SIS PTO. So far, we have raised $550. We are continuing to ask for donations to support PTO sponsored activities. Without your financial support, we are at risk of not being able to host all of the events that we have done traditionally.
The options for donating to the PTO are as follows:
Donate via Venmo to: @SIS-Oldenburg
Donate via Infinite Campus: From the home page, click on your student’s profile. Click “Fees.” At the bottom of the page, click “Optional Payments.” Select “SIS PTO Donation” and then an amount to add to your cart and pay.
Drop off cash or a check payable to “SIS PTO” at the SIS office.
We have selected the date for the Fall Dance – Friday, November 20 from 6-8pm.
Watch for a sign up genius in the next few weeks with more information on how you can help with decorating, chaperoning, and selling concessions.
Our next PTO meeting will be on Wednesday, October 21 at 5:30 p.m. at Three Lions Pub. All are welcome to attend.
Please contact Laura Oldenburg at SISPTO414@gmail.com with any questions.

From Previous Bulletins
FastBridge Screening Data
The FastBridge Universal Screening Assessment is administered in the Fall, Winter, and Spring to measure each student’s growth throughout the school year. Students in grades K-8 complete FastBridge testing in math. Students in grades 4-8 complete FastBridge testing in reading (aimswebPlus is used as the screening tool for reading in grades K-3). Families have access to FastBridge scores via Next Path.
Accessing the screening results through NextPath
Please use this link to view your student's FastBridge screener results. Step-by-step directions for accessing NextPath are linked here.
For each assessment your student completed, you will see a percentile, which measures how students performed relative to their peers nationally. This data allows staff to identify students who are on track as well as students who may need supplemental instruction focused on growth. You can learn more about FastBridge data by accessing the following link: ”Understanding the FastBridge Family Report.”
Reporting School Absences and Appointments
We appreciate when guardians report student absences to the SIS office in a timely fashion. Whether your student needs to arrive late, leave school for an appointment, or will be out for the whole day, you now have three ways to report the information so we can keep things flowing smoothly. Please use whatever reporting method is easiest for you!
- Leave a voicemail on the attendance line at 414-963-6959
- Email sisinfo@shorewood.k12.wi.us
- Use the Infinite Campus Portal (More > Absence Requests)
For medical appointments, please submit the slip you receive from the doctor's office after the appointment to the main office, either on paper or via email to sisinfo@shorewood.k12.wi.us.
When your student was in elementary school, it may have seemed natural for you to notify their teacher about absences and appointments. You do not need to do that in grades 7-12. The office will record attendance information in Infinite Campus, where all of your child's teachers will see it.
Refer to the SSD 7-12 Grade Attendance Guidelines
To learn more about reporting student absences through the Infinite Campus website, please click here for a brief introduction or here for a video. The Campus Parent (Infinite Campus app) is available both on the Apple and Google Play stores. If you need help with accessing Infinite Campus, please contact Iris Bohan at ibohan@shorewood.k12.wi.us for assistance.
